Question BLIND SPOT SIDE MIRRORS

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to add in some extra features that did not come initially with the car (e350 2010). I wanted to know if my current side mirrors who are not equipped with blind spot could be converted by purchasing side mirrors with blind spot feature. Is there a way to add it in the system or it is it plug and play. or it is totally impossible. I'm doubting I can.

At a minimum you'd need the mirror glass for both sides (very expensive) plus the radar sensors for the rear bumper.

Well i have sensors on the rear bumper used for park assist and objects in the surrounding. Would those be the sensors you were reffering to ?

You'll also need the computer bits. IIRC then each mirror glass is in excess of $1k

Could you tell me more about this ''computer bits IIRC'' you are talking about. As for the mirrors I have the complete piece meaning the body, the mirror and the inside components with 2 plugs coming out. From there I need to know what Ineed to add in to make them work.

Thanks

Those are PARKTRONIC sensors. Completely separate from the radar sensors for Blind Spot Assist.

You should visit your dealer and get a quote to install it. I don't think anyone here has attempted it.

you could also train yourself to use the mirrors as they were intended: having them angled back, out on the sides........The Star had an article about that a few months ago....

Correct. First you need the sensors, then you need the wiring and the computer to run all of the calculations - assuming you already have the mirrors.

Get a quote from the dealer. I'll bet you'll get a quote in excess of $5k

But that would require the driver taking responsibility - what are you thinking?

Here's how to adjust them and another if you can't do it without a youtube video

http://www.mbenznl.com offers a kit with all the parts needed. I looked into this myself a while ago and been in touch with Wanda over there. The point where I got stuck with my research is that we would need a dealer that enables the feature codes via Xentry and updates the data card of the vehicle.
