different. Despite being a 6.4L motor, the SRT8 is all top end power. I traded a '10 E550 Coupe on it so I've had experience with Merc's big motor too. The old Merc WA580 in the Chrysler doesn't do it any favors as its too lazy but there was definitely a sense of it being light on torque.

The 4.7TT in the '14 has torque for days and certainly doesn't seem anemic up top either.

Interesting. I don't feel like the '14 kicks you in the pants (starting in 1st/sport, WOT) until about 3000rpm, despite the torque band suggesting most of the torque is available at 1600 or so rpms--- could this just be the way my tranny mapped my driving pattern from day 1?

my single gripe beyond somewhat ponderous handling at the limit is that the transmission pretty much laughs at you in "M" mode. I don't use it much but when I do its for a reason and I don't want the be in a higher gear (i.e. coming down a long hill and not wanting to ride the brakes).

I found the same. For a TT V8 I didn't find the low end torque to be all that massive on the 550. In fact, in normal driving, you'd have absolutely no idea you were hauling around such a beast of an engine underhood. You need to really step on it and tell it to "WAKE UP", then it becomes the beast that it is. Maybe this is by design as M-B clientele for these cars are older who want a smooth and effortless ride, not something sporty and spunky with eagerness at the lowest throttle RPM's. I also think the lethargic 7G tranny has to do with it.

It's not the motor or the ZF 7 speed; its the programming of the throttle sensor. Mercedes have ALWAYS had lazy throttle pedals. Jumping out of the Benz and into my BMW, its night/day. The Benz has literally half the motor....2.0 turbo four cylider but with a ZF 8 speed. It BEGS to be driven hard, given how aggressive the throttle sensor is...at least in "Sport" mode. In "Econ" mode, its lazy too.

I had a Kleemann tune on my 2010 E550.....that most definitely fixed the throttle issue. I'm hopeful a tune from Eurochargedd will help
