what do you do for a living?
I work for the German counterpart Siemens(huge worldwide company based out of Germany) I do building automation which is everything from programming, to networking, to crawling around on construction sites getting dirty sometimes, and electrical troubleshooting.
I also have a small Electrical business, as I came up through the trades as an electrician and used my electrical troubleshooting to get a foot in the door with the big company Siemens.
Anyone else care to share?

Where the money really is is with people who don't care to participate in forums like this, i.e. Doctors and lawyers...
my first job out of college was working on Project Orion and Mars Science Laboratory for NASA which was the replacement space shuttle... then the new president cut all our funding and I was laid off for 2 years until I found my current job.

1) can afford an E-class
2) willing to participate in an on line forum about above cars.
The first group is probably pretty broad upper middle class and comprises people from income levels of upper 5 figures to 6 figures plus. This can be professionals, tech people or anyone with a business of their own. It can also be families with dual earners in the mid $50k range or single income families with management or 6 figure income. I think the opportunity to own a recent model year E-class is there for a lot of people. I'd also say that the sampling is rather small here so you can't draw categorical conclusions from it.
The cars themselves vary greatly too. You can have people who can only afford a 3 year old used E350 with no options with a 5 year loan then you can have people leasing a fully loaded E550 4matic every 2 years. Obviously the two aren't the same and require a hugely different income level.
I'm actually quite surprised about the market share mbusa can hold in the US in new car sales. But I'm thinking people who buy new cars are already at the upper part of the income level especially when the average new car sells for north of $30K.
As for the people visiting this forum, they would be the younger and more tech adapting part of the demographics so probably the "poorer" Benz owners.
Oh, and my wife drives a 2012 Audi A4 Avant we bought new. I'm trading a 3 year old BMW 328xi with 46k miles I bought new.
