whats the real hw mpg on e250 bt?
I am planning on a new car after a decade of owning a C class. I see that e250bt 4matic gets epa estimate of 42 hw mpg and I often hear diesel cars often beat estimates.
I plan to make long trips with this vehicle(1 passenger/light load). Generally 100 or so miles stretches at around 75-80 m/h. What can I expect from this car? if its not almost always over 42 mps on hw then its not worth giving up the power I get from e550 (26 hw mpg)
in other words I can trade thrill for fuel economy but if it is significant as I have explained above.
I am looking at fully loaded so pricewise they are not far off.
any help is appreciated. thanks

From my trip report last week:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...road-trip.html
That trip included some city driving and some pretty high mountain passes along with some 80+ mph stretches (Utah has an 80 mph limit on I-80 west of SLC).
We bought the car with the intention of lots of road trips (so far Germany/Austria, Ohio-Florida, and Ohio-Oregon/California). I enjoy the car a lot...

Trip mileage was 6066 miles, 98 hours of driving, average mpg 38.6, average speed 62 mpg (first photo).
On one stretch across I-40 in New Mexico my son drove 64 miles at 80 mph and got 48 mpg (second photo).

this was the best i've gotten sometime last month. it's quite common to get 48mpg on long stretches of consistent speed. don't use the cruise control, it will limit your "coasting" efficiency.
