K & N Filter Consensus

Hi All, Maybe this was discussed before but I searched and did not find much.

What is the consensus on K & N Filters for our cars (W212)?

1. Does it hurt performance?
2. Does it increase mileage?
3. Does it increase HP?
4. Does it mess up the Air Mass Sensor?

I spoke to some shops and they acted like it was a No No. It hurts performance, etc. But some said that it helped performance....Confusing.

So I decided to ask you guys here, your own experience.

Thanks ahead of time.

So you think the MB engineers didn't know what they were doing when they designed the air filter system. Maybe you want to get one of those magnets for the fuel line too.

while I haven't used a K&N on a W212, I have about 250k miles of experience with K&N on a few other vehicles.

I didn't notice any dramatic increase in performance or mileage. Engine noise was a little bit different/louder.

the longest I've used a K&N on a vehicle was 175k miles (a BMW M54TU 2.8l I6 engine). Never had an issue with MAF even after 175k miles.

So I don't have anything really positive to say about K&N filters, but I also don't have anything negative. I don't think they offer any real benefit other than the fact you won't need to buy another air filter for the life of the vehicle.
