iOS in the Car

Does the 2013 E Class have iPhone integration with built-in Command system? Or is the Drive Kit Plus needed for such capabilities?

What are you trying to do with iphone? My 2013 works fine with my wife's iphone 5. we can use bt for phone calls, and audio streaming.

I'm not exactly sure what all functions I'm looking for. All I know at this time is that I love how intuitive the iPhone is and having it as a means to access/control features in your car (navigation, weather, stocks, other apps, etc) would be great. It would also be great for a vehicle to be able to utilize a phones data connection to take advantage of higher speeds (currently LTE versus the car's 3G). I know my response is rather vague but at a higher level I'm trying to understand if my new 2013 will have the "iOS in the Car" capabilities that have been in the car tech news in the recent months. Whether that's with the built-in Command system or the addition "Drive Kit Plus." Seems like the DKP was announced time ago but no one (incl Merc) has much info on it.

Since I plan on keeping my vehicle for a very long time, I hope I'm not buying in car tech that will be outdated quickly (when the iOS in the Car is available). If my 2013, will have the ability to integrate with iOS (even if it requires SDK), it will give me a sense of relief.

Is this referring to SDK for Mercedes vehicles or will the factory Command have this functionality? Also, what year vehicles does this apply to?

^ they are saying sometime this year. so, either 2014 models to be produced later in the year, or the new 2015 models in the fall (i told you to wait for the E400 wagon! hahaha).

i'm not sure if this means the current COMAND units can be upgraded with iOS integration, or if the dash units are to be replaced altogether.

couple of my thoughts that would support a totally new dash unit:

* the current screen is really small compared to the competition and needs a freshening
* i have never known Apple to hand over SW alone, without some control over the HW (i suppose iTunes is an exception)

i would really hope for a SW solution, though - for those of us with the current unit. however, i don't really care that much either. i don't have any issues using my NAV or SAT radio.

EDIT: does anyone know if this integration is just something that takes your phone and extends a special application for in-car use?

After "building" a 2014 E Class in Mercedes's website, I had the option to add DKP as an accessory. So if the 2014s can be integrated with SDK, does that mean the 2013s can? Is there any difference in the hardware or software in the Command systems for those 2 years?

How much does that cost, and has anyone bought it? It sounds like what I'm looking for, which is a deeper integration with iPhone. I don't think it's iOS in the car, though maybe. This looks like an app within comand that has sub apps, the most interesting for me by far is the local search function. This is an area where the stock comand is severely lacking IMO. I'm interested.

this was posted a few days ago. looks to me like it's mostly iPhone over wire, with a few data exchanges for display resolution, input devices, etc.

disappointing if we have to use our data plans, instead of the already installed GPS equipment in the vehicle.

I did get one for my 2014 E350. See my earlier comments at: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...4-e-class.html

Update: my DKP failed and it is being replaced, should arrive from Germany around the middle of next month.

I trust that th future value will shine through once MB truly establishes the product. I'm seeing future technology being delivered through the DKP like Car-to-X communications.

No where else can MB upgrade the technology in our cars like this? An update pushed to our phones can bring new features ... Ever try updating the hard drive maps yet?

Here is the info for v1.6 of the app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/digi...518868239?mt=8

Did you get your new DKP? Also, is it the one for the iPhone 5?
