Yep, the S40 was a comfortable car for its size. It was actually my wife's car originally, but when twins came along and made us five we bought a new Sienna Limited AWD in 2011 (really GREAT vehicle). I'm 6"1' 105 lbs, so the S40 wasn't great for my build. It gave us 125k of completely trouble free driving. We gave it to my wife's parents because their Volvo just died with around 340k miles on it.

The E350 fits me perfectly and I can't imagine ever getting anything smaller ever again. Plenty of room for the tribe too. I commute daily 120 miles round trip through some of the best traffic Boston has to offer and the MB makes it infinitely more comfortable.

Back in topic, I love the diversity of ownership histories of the forum yet we all ended up here, which shows how many paths lead to the same destination.

2005 Chevrolet Silverado SS 6.0l v8 AWD - I miss this truck a lot.
2011 Mercedes Benz E550 Sedan - Ended up starting a great career and needed something else to drive around with clients. Was dead set on the same year Cadillac CTS , but the lack of a V8 below $75k brought me to MB. The BMW's at the time looked way to feminine to even consider.

I will say I do miss the modding communities of the american brands. A tune for your mustang/camaro/truck was somewhere in the $200-450 range, and the $450 tune netted you a spare ECU or Handheld. I'm not sure if the 5.5l NA v8 is already maxed out so much that it killed any aftermarket, or if it is the fact that the demographic is mainly older folks who dont care about modding. A $700-1500 ECU seems a bit crazy to me, unless there is some higher tier of difficulty compared to tuning other brands ECU's that I am unaware of.

For the time this car had amazing equipment.

-Automatically leveling air springs. It actually had a switch in the trunk to disable the system for tire change like when you jack up the car it would not adjust air pressure for the changing level sensor. Wonder how MB missed this little detail as my car air springs get all messed up when changing the tire in one corner of the car.

-It had 10-way adjustable front seats.

-It had a driving computer in the center console to tell you all sorts of info. Had average and instant fuel mileage, average speed, trip etc.

- It had 100% hydraulic brake system. By far the best of any ABS system I have driven including the two MB cars I have had. It did not use engine vacuum for boosting. It had hydraulic pump that charged a hydraulic accumulator that operated the brakes.

-It even had the automatic High / Low beam switch that changed lights based on traffic. This was a small plastic box mounted right under the rear view mirror and you could also adjust the sensitivity of it too.

-It had the trunk pull down motor, i.e. you would not slam the trunk lid. You would just gently push it to the hook that then pulled it closed.

-It had cornering lights.

The cat was very heavy and gave a real nice ride yet firm enough for our speeds. And it gave me 24 MPG on highway with the old 5.0 L Ford V8! And this car was built almost 30 years ago now.

For those that don't know this car it is the same that James Bond drove in the movie filmed in New Orleans area. Don't remember the name of the movie now...

If they would build those again I would buy one.

If anyone is interested in reading about "old" cars, Hemmings Classic Cars and Collectible Automobiles are two really great magazines. Interestingly, cars from the 1980's are now moving into the "antique" arena so some articles appering on those. If you didn't already feel old.
