Key-less Entry

I am able to unlock my vehicle with the keyless entry system by simply placing my hand on the door handle. However, when it comes to locking it, it doesn't work as well. Sometimes it locks, other times it doesn't. Am I just not putting my hand in the right location? Is there even a specific location to unlock versus lock?

Thanks in advance!

Pull on handle to unlock, push the little square indentation on the outside of the handle to lock (or area around that square indentation).

The little square plays no role in the normal locking. It is for closing the sunroof and the windows during locking.

It's hard to say. Mine requires a simple tap with the back of my hand (or a hip check if my hands are full). When I first got my car, however, I mentioned to my salesperson that I had a similar problem. He pointed out that the way I tried to lock it involved putting part of my hand near the inside of the door handle, and thus was likely confusing the sensors. Since then I have used the back of my hand (thus keeping my fingers away from th handle) and it works perfectly.

Eta: this is probably why pointing at the little square seems to work: pointing keeps your fingers tucked in and away from the inside of the handle. Pointing at any place on the outside should work just as well.

your car should lock by touching anywhere on the outside of the handle, shouldnt be just in that little square.

Mine only locks if you touch the square or about an inch to the left or right of the square. If you go further than an inch, then it won't lock.

Mine works if I touch anywhere on the outside of handle to lock. The square dimple also works well. May be try warming your hands before touching.
I have one question though. Does the "keyless go" includes opening the trunk with your foot under the rear bumper? That feature doesn't seem to work with my car (Not sure if it's installed or not).

I do the same as ttoE550 explained. Front or back door handles respond to the back of my fist about 90% first time.

You should be able to lock by touching anywhere on the outside handles by using 1 finger

This works for me less than half the time. Its annoying when it takes 4 plus tries to lock your vehicle when you realize that you could have locked it via the fob and already be on your way.

Guys, I'm sure that keyless go locking ONLY works on the little small squares on the door handles. That is what it is for. My car won't lock unless I touch that small square.

I have been able to lock the car by tapping anywhere on the outside of the handle. I unlock it by tapping anywhere on the inside of the handle. Hip tapping also works and always has when walking through our garage between the two vehicles.

The KeyLESS Go system is still full of interference and non-operational issues. My 2010 had multiple failures over the years, and my new 2014 already had a few already.

Talking to the shop foreman I trust, he mentioned that the entire system was being reviewed by MB as they are seeing failures across all lines. Interestingly, he mentioned that those of that keep the keys in our synthetic dress slacks build up static electricity on the metal case and when we keep the key in cotton jeans, less or no static is generated. He suggested trying natural materials and seeing if the failure rates diminish or disappear.

When everything is perfect it locks the doors when touching anywhere on the outside surface of the handle. This is how mine works or has worked for the two years I have had my car but for some reason sometimes it requires to touch the small rectangular indentation or very close to it to lock the car. I don't know why this is but it is the fact.

And I'm not talking about the dark red colored narrow rectangular part on the driver's door handle, which is the infrared receiver window for the signal from the key-fob if you want to use it to open all windows before you get in the car.

Tapping the door handle with the back of the hand (or even front of the hand) seems to be a very good suggestion. I am now able to lock the door using that method 100% of the time. Touching the inside of the handle always unlocks it as well. Thanks guys!

However, I was unable to get the windows to roll up by touching the small square. Any suggestions here? Thanks.

Any idea why the cars doesn't just always lock itself when it sees the key fob moves away from the car? And unlock when it comes near? At least as an option.

I can lock by touching anywhere on the outside handle. This is on page 79 of the 2011 owners manual. It even works when I have thick winter gloves on. The little square, as others said, is for the windows and sunroof.

To make it clear for all, what little square are you talking about?

I'm not sure if it's good or bad. With my key in my pocket and standing besides my wife, no body contact, she can lock and unlock the door by touching the handle. It doesn't work if she's standing on the passenger side door and I'm on the driver side door. It also works on the trunk.

So when my daughter says, "Can I borrow your key, I need to get something in the trunk," I just stand besides her and she's able to open the trunk normally.

That is how it is supposed to work. The car does not know in which pocket it is as long as it is close enough.

The passenger side door does not unlock if you are not next to it to protect you from someone else storming in the car when you are entering on the driver's side.

Same with the trunk lid. if it would open without you next to it anybody could go and open it while you are getting in the car or just sitting on the front seat.

Oh, I didn't know that . Honestly, this is my first KG equipped car from MB.
Thanks, Arrie.

The little square that is the same color as the car's paint (not the infrared square). I tried to close the windows by pressing on it for a few seconds and it indeed does work.

Hmm, not how its working on my car. I have key in my pocket, standing next to drivers door, My wife and/or my son can unlock it by pulling on the handle on the passenger side front or rear doors. Same thing for the rear hatch (its a wagon), I can stand by the drivers door and wife can pull on rear hatch and it'll automatically unlock and open (along with unlocking all doors).
