Anyone have a roof rack?

I see that MB offers a $300 basic roof rack and 3 different aerodynamic boxes (for about $600) to mount on the rack. Does anyone have any experience with these? How much does gas consumption increase, for example. The problem with the split fold down rear seats on a E350 is that there is an interlock that prevents reclining the passenger seat if the rear seat is not locked in position. The lockout is a good thing for preventing damage to the front seat back but makes the passenger sit bolt upright on long trips. Comments on which size of the 3 boxes that you have are also invited.

You need to get that front seat lockout corrected by the dealer. That shouldn't be there.

I have the largest box and it worked great on my recent ski trip to Taos, NM. I wouldn't buy the smaller ones, the large one is definitely the way to go. The wind noise is not too bad and the mileage did not go down by that much went from about 23 mpg to 21 mpg but it can also be due to driving 80 mph, climbing into the hills and having 91 octane instead of 93 that we have in TX.

All in all I highly recommend the box, it is a high quality piece of accessory as is the base rack.

There was one for sale here on the forum. It doesn't include the box but it might be a good price for the frame to attach to the roof.

I believe the MB boxes are made by Thule for MB. Regardless of the rack that you buy (MB or Thule) you should take a look at the Thule boxes, they look very slick are are of high quality. I run a Thule 16 cuft box on my e550 without any issue. drag is minor but I would not leave it on the car (or the rack) as it does cause some drag and noise

I went with MB bars and large Thule box. Works great.
