Run Flat Indicator vs TMPS

Hi,

I have a 2010 E550 and I need to find out if I need to purchase a set of TMPS for my new wheels. I called Mercedes and they told me my E is not equipped with TMPS. However, my car is equipped with Run Flat Indicator. Aren't both the same monitoring tire pressure? I am confused lol. I am from Canada so maybe it's called differently here. So do I need TMPS or not???

I'm not sure if I can post this link here.. but it may help you.

I think you have TMPS? Do you have run flat tires by any chance??

Not sure if MG fired is a good thing...

If you don't have TPMS sensors, then your car uses the ABS sensors and measure the rotation of each tire to determine if there is pressure loss. A flat tire will rotate faster.

Be thankful you don't have TPMS. Its an added expense that does nothing for you.

What? Does TPMS do nothing for you? Im glad i had it when my winter tire was leaking air. Its an extra security. I always check before I drive but the leak happend on the highway so Im glad i could stop before it got to far and had to replace the rim.

The ABS sensor system would do the same thing for you on the highway.

The only advantage of TPMS is to be able to see your pressures real time.

So I am assuming because mine is a Run Flat Indicator I would not be required for TMPS correct? And yes my tires are run flats from OEM.

I too would like to know this. I have a E350 and recently had a flat to deal with.

I simply got the warning "Check tire pressure soon" to annoyingly it did not say which tire...which then necessitated and trial and error round to figure out which one it was.

Would TPMS give me that warning (i.e. a general tire pressure check) or would it spell out which tire it would be?
