In reality , the internal combustion engine is on a slow and drawn out obsolete journey itself. Like it or not, EV's are the future. I personally am happy/open/accepting of that because I for one can never settle for a 4 cylinder in my primary car. With EV's becoming more prevalent, in due time, we'll hopefully have the options of the remaining inherently "good" gas motors (V8's, I6's, basically ones that sound good, operate smoothly and have ideal power curves) or the far more sustainable EV's, which can really do it all (once they get range worked out, which they will).
The 3-cylinder and 4 cylinders will soon be ultimate compromises on all fronts. Crude operation, relatively harder to attain power-curve perfection, terrible sounding, etc.

I was in a dealer about a week ago and found out as they told me the E400 was only available as a hybrid and not a straight gas engine. So, this car doesn't seem to be a replacement for the E550.

For MY 2015, E400 is 3.0 Twin turbo V6. There may still be a E400 hybrid as well.
