2014 MB E350 4Matic Sport
Remote Start

So, my 2014 E350 4Matic Sport has arrived at the VPC in Baltimore. Hoping to have it within the next week or so.

What are your thoughts on having the dealership install a remote start? I really like the idea of having one, but I've heard its controversial, even amongst dealerships. Some offer it, some don't recommend it.

I'd love to get some input from all of you on any experiences you've had, good and bad.

Thanks,

Jim

Mercedes does not seem to be a fan of remote start. I think I read it is partially because of the anti idling laws in Europe. My wife has it on her second car and she loves it. My wife says remote start, keyless go and remote start are her major requirements for a car.

I have no remote start so she leaves my car alone.

I have the Viper Remote Start with interface through the iphone. It works great and does not need to use a key, so both keys are usable. I love turning it on the cold evening when I get back from a flight and have it warmed up before I get to the parking structure.

I've had several remote starters in several cars, you'll go through more gas!

Also, make sure it doesn't void your warranty across all mb dealerships

If you keep your car in a garage, don't get remote start (even if you know you'll always remember to open the garage door every time). Seriously...you only have to forget once.

2014 MB E350 4Matic Sport
I've had remote starts before and think they're great. I understand that MB doesn't really approve of them. My concern is that, since its an after-market item, will it interfere with any of the other systems, and if it does, will it void the warrant? If I do get it, I will have the dealer install it (At a price somewhere around $1300 or $1400) on the brand new car. I would think they would accept any responsibility if it caused a problem.

Are my concerns justified? Does anyone here have any experience with a 2014 model?

SlPat: I'm in agreement with your wife! I just wish it was offered as a factory option, so I wouldn't have to be worried about the warranty issue.

ghstudio- Excellent advice! I would never run the car in the garage.

PeterUBERS: I'm not really too concerned about the gas. I think its worth it for the comfort factor. More concerned about the warranty problem.

Matts: I have to check to see what brand the dealership uses. I continually hear good reviews on Mid-city as well.

Thanks again for all your input. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with me.

This is the only one I would consider as it doesn't involve a bunch of hacking into the factory wiring: http://smartkeystarter.com/

The "Standalone Heater" is MB's remote start offered as an option in Europe. I'd ask Steve at MBenzNL about it.

Mine is Mid-City at the heart of the system and works very well.
