E550 5.5L Exhaust

I did not want to hijack old threads so I am starting a new one. I think many can agree the 5.5L needs to breathe. With that if you have any knowledge, ideas or pics of aftermarket exhaust options for the 5.5L please comment. I'm new to the E550 world and having mine for about a week now there is one thing I want to change, the exhaust. I want to hear her and I just don't know where to start honestly. I'm very used to having many options as far as aftermarket cat back's etc., but it just doesn't seem the case with this car/motor. A good friend of mine I took for a ride whom has owned AMG's and currently has an F360 w/ exhaust said to me "this car is quietly fast and I don't hear a thing which takes away from that well known powerful motor". I could not agree with him more. So I started this thread and all advice is welcome!!

I got my Xpipe.done today , sounds better than stock but still pretty quiet ,so I think ill do muffler delete sometime next week.
Thats of you wanna.go cheaper version , but as far as a complete exhaust id say SuperSprint exhaust or Amg ones are a good replacement.

I think most folks that have the NA 550 usually go with a resonator delete. Gives you some more of that great sound, but not so much that you get drone and can still have conversations in the car, hear your music as it's intended, etc.

I'm interested on what can be done on the TT 550s.

I would recommend eisenmann, supersprint, or meistershaft exhaust. Out of the 3, meistershaft is the most affordable.

Not sure if it applies to the w212, but on my CLK550 i deleted 3 resonators ( i think some call 2 of them secondary cats, but they are all resonators). Sounds perfect and no drone...

Yes....I picked up a lot of info in this thread.. Understand at least on the clk exhaust that it get monster loud with the muffler delete...mine sounds perfect, very throaty, but not over the top....may consider removing those before you delete the muffler...good luck

Did you straight pipe everything? Or did you throw in an x pipe somewhere?

I already posted this in the C207 forums, but figured it can go here too. I have the TT V8, and just had the resonator delete done yesterday. The 2ndary cats/resonators/bulbs/whatever I left on the car.

It sounds awesome. On a cold start, it sounds fairly loud. Not annoying, but a good volume. Accelerating really has a great sound. Cruising is quiet. I plan to get take some vids soon, and I'll share them to help folks in their decision. Cost me $140. most certainly worth it.

Yes, straightpiped. Had all 3 removed, piped and welded for $225? In and out in an hour.

I deleted the center resonators from my ML550 and it literally made no noticeable difference. Also, it would rattle at a certain RPM as those resonators are there to control high frequency sound. If you want more sound change the rear mufflers with something else. Eisenmann makes some killer exhaust systems but I don't believe they make it for the E550 sedan.

Here's how it sounds:

Hey Kirk, I suspect the rattle may be due to the install...no rattle on mine, and did a ton of research before doing my clk and did not see that complaint..also with the 3 resonators deleted, made a big diff in sound, at least in mine...My son just got back from college and I let him take it for a ride... He was very surprised and said it sounds perfect. I heard him take off, im very pleased. That said I agree that Eisenmann sounds sweet, they make some nice systems, but spendy

Cheers

Besides Eisenmann, I think Meistershaft GTC has pretty sick exhaust notes for V6 and V8 application. I am thinking of possibly being the first to install this on my E550. Trying to look for the best deal before I pull the trigger

Resonators delete sounds good between 2000 to 3500 rpm, very quite above that. Put it back bc of highway drone. I'm interested to know how would it sound with the huge resonator in place but removed muffler, specially in TT V8 2011+

Please do. Sounds pretty bad ***. Did you notice any difference in back pressure without the mufflers?
