Need your help..
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum.. So this is the deal, first time merc owner and recently bought a used 2010 w212 mercedes benz avantgarde E350. It had already been used 50,000km in Germany. Recently, we have had this issue that it automatically engages Park. It has happened once with me and few with my brother. I put reverse and it starts to move back then it just stops in its place with the P on. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. We sent it to the local official mercedes service twice in Lebanon to get it checked but they got nothing in their system diagnostic
.
1- My major concern is does it have some kind of system that when its not moving it automatically engages it?
2- Why does the P sign come on when moving below 30kmh and goes off after? The picture attached show what I mean.
Any advice would be highly appreciated
Thank you

Do you have an operators manual? That P on the left comes on at low speed to tell you that your car is looking for a parking space. When one is found an arrow will pop up telling you this is a suitable place to parallel park. It has nothing to do with placing the shift lever in Park.

Mine does not throw itself in park when opening a door. It sends a warning and that is it, you keep moving. Throwing itself into park sounds dangerous. MB does not like danger.

My E550 does automatically engage park when you are in reverse and open the drivers door. In my Infiniti M i used to roll down the driveway and open the door to pick up the newspaper. The first time I did it with my E the car went right into park. I surprised me and i don't know what the logic is. I tried it again and it happens every time.

I guess maybe they made a change from 2010 to 2011. If I open my door the warning just says "car door is open and not in park" and I can keep rolling along.

How frequently is it happening, they need to keep the car for an extended period of time to replicate it

UPDATE: The P that shows up makes sense when looking for a parking space however, still havent found a solution why it engages P (park) automatically.
Yesterday after I got it washed, drove it a few meters to dry it out. After like 30min, I was driving out so it engaged the P and a loud sound krkrkrkrkr.. Apparently its trying to stop the car. I stopped, tried to engage to D (drive) but it wouldnt take. Tried again but it didnt
. I turned the car off and on then it took it.
This happened again while I was driving in town in low speed, very dangerous but it was good no car was behind me.

My car recently would not shift out of park intermittently . The transmission control connector beneath the car was loose per the dealer. You could check that. It never jumped into park but I towed it the first time it happened.

That does not sound normal. As far as I know, on older gearboxes, if you go from D to P while moving, you will need a new transmission. I would assume with electronic shifter they will have a fail safe in place.
Take it to dealer ASAP, do not drive that thing.

Not trying to be too harsh, but seriously? Your MB is obviously having a major issue. Take it for repair, like TOMORROW. Not sure how many dealers there are in Lebanon, but if they did not find the issue the first time then take it to an independent shop.
