Adding cigarette lighter socket to center console

The center console (under the arm rest) of my 2014 E250 Bluetech has a Media Jack and a USB Jack, but no 12vdc cigarette lighter socket. I like to keep a cell phone in there and keep it on a charger, hence, the need. I know the USB port provides charging voltage but I'd like to keep that available for a USB stick containing pictures, mp3's, etc. I've seen where the lighter socket (same one as the trunk and back seat ashtray) is available, but haven't seen where anyone has installed one in the center console. It looks like there might be enough depth right next to the USB and Media Jacks.

Anyone done this? And if so, can you provide any tips on console removal, etc? Thanks in advance.

check out this thread. The OP was looking to do something similar. You may want to see if they did it yet.

I have a 12V socket in the glove compartment. Do you have one and would that be convenient for you?

Thank you Fisch.

It would indeed, but the glove compartment cigarette lighter socket was removed in the 2014 facelift (as I understand). Unfortunately, mine doesn't have one.

No problem. So the 2014 only has two 12v outlets - the cigarette lighter near the cupholders and the rear center console? I thought they moved the glovebox 12v to the center console. Guess they didn't.

I have the one in the trunk as well, so 4 altogether. I don't use any if them. The socket really does belong in the console.

Forgot about the trunk. I agree that the console would be more convenient. My last car had that and I could keep the cable tucked in there and connect when needed. Now I just use the rear AC jack and run the cable alongside the passenger seat for use when needed. At least I don't see it all the time.

I've found that none of these outlets (trunk, rear seat, or drivers lighter) have power with the ignition off. I need an "always on" source to keep the cell phone plugged into. Is your glove compartment lighter socket "always on"? If yes, I think I'll install one there in my 2014 since there is obviously a 12v source nearby that's always on.
