Door ajar/open dash warning?

I don't have a dash warning if any door is open while the car is running... Is that normal?

Are you in park? I only get a warning when the car is not in park.

hey fisch, thanks for the reply:

I am in park and it doesn't tell me the door is ajar.

Every other car I've driven does this -- some searching on this site revealed that this is typical for this E class... bummer, would love to know if a door wasn't closed before I started driving, no?

I agree with you. New experience for me too. I miss that simple little red door open icon on past dashboards.

At least they got the turn signal/wiper controls swapped with the cruise control in your 2014. I have gotten used to the lower location on my 2011 for the most part, but I still can't see what setting the wipers are on since the lower left spoke on the 4 spoke steering wheel is in the way.

It's silly if MB cancelled that door ajar warning considering they have a warning for hood open and given that I don't think they should have deleted that warning . So, are you sure they deleted it or needs to be turned on by toggling the buttons thru the car's menu

haven't seen a menu option for it. It's not deleted exactly - it only triggers when you are not in park.

Yes, if you move the red light blares out. I cannot remember being any different for the last 3 MB's I have owned. This also applied to the hood being ajar in my other cars. I had a hood switch go bad and the warning would pop on when I got to like 10 mph and then go off when I stopped at a light, only to go back on when I hit 10 mph again. Man, that was annoying until I replaced the $15 switch.

pretty silly programming imho, every other manufacturer follows the same style of warning ...

at 10mph.. NOW I get to know that a door is open or the hood is open? I'm already on the road.... stupid

I actually HATE it when my car beeps, yells and blinks at me when the door is open in park. There are many times when I want the door open in park and I don't need the car telling me about it. The real risk is when you're not in park and potentially moving. But I'm sure everyone has their reasons for having it one way versus another.
