I have been experiencing a very fine vibration at 70 Mph and although I balanced the tires a few times the vibration was still present. It was also strange that the vibration was somewhat intermittent. To make the long story short I was told by the dealer that I have considerably bent rims. I have the original E550 AMG rims. Yes the NYC roads are horrible and full of potholes but how could this bend the rims. Dealer assures me that this is what causes the vibration. They quoted me $150 per wheel to straighten them. Does that sound legit and reasonable???
That's reasonable if they are straightening and refinishing. I have the AMG wheels also and have suffered bubbled and destroyed tires, but have managed to avoid actually bending them. They are pretty tough compared to the "fat 5" wheels I had on my E500. I bent all 4 of those at different times.

$150 per wheel is not bad. Wheel Fix It in Freeport is a little cheaper but the dealer's quoted price is not bad.
I have lived in NYC for many years and yes the roads here bend wheels all the time.
Yes, I had the exact same issue when I went to lower profile tires and it would be at a specific speed range that the vibration would show up. I paid about $350 and waited 4 weeks to have one of my wheels straightened here in Denver, as there's only one shop that does that kind of work around here. Consider yourself lucky lol, or maybe this is a chance to get a new set of wheels.

The cost of repair of the rims is a bit high but not outrageous.
However I hate it when dealers jump to conclusions.
Since the fronts seem to get hit worse have you tried moving them to the rears and see what happens?
Do you have access to another set of wheels that fit such as winter tires on their own rims or a friend who you could trade wheels with as a test?
Worth a shot.
Thanks for your input. Yes I tried rotation but didn't help. Now vibration is completely gone after all 4 wheels were straightened. MB Manhattan did a good job.
