I came out of a restaurant to find a 20" long scratch on the hood of my car. It runs from the protective film over the passenger side crease toward the center of the hood.
The dealer estimated the damage at $1,082 to respray paint, clear coat, and replace protective film. I'm wondering if a dealer (Prime Motors) owned body shop uses factory paints and clear coat. Since this would fall under my comprehensive insurance as a "no-fault" claim, I would be out the $500 deductible and anything above that would be covered by insurance. I had a great experience with the dealer, so my inclination is to bring it to them for repair.
Anything that I should be aware of/ask for in relation to the work that needs to be done? I'd rather have them hit up my insurance company now, as opposed to going back to the well for additional funding. I'll take a picture when the sun comes up.
The thin line is the protective film, the scratch is,,,,,well, the scratch.

Did you park like a stupid? Seriously, trying to figure out why this would happen.
I guess this can happen to any of us regardless of how the car is parked. Just unfortunate that the jerk was around .
I didn't fully understand how you would be able to get out of the deductible though....???

I can't get out of the deductible. It's $500 out of pocket, but anything over $500 is insured. However, there is no surcharge for vandalism.
As for parking, I was on an end spot (I seek them out) away from the entrance. I make sure that the chances of getting dinged are as low as possible. Some people just suck. This is one of those cases.
That stinks! Sorry to see that. I'm not a violent person, but if I ever caught someone doing that to my car...good chance I'd lose it. Good luck with the fix
exactly. I have done quite a number of comprehensive claims over the last few years and my insurance rate never went up. I just paid my deductible.
For reference these are the claims
- Wheel damage
- extensive hail damage
- Windshield repair
- complete repair of front driver corner and side (someone backed into my car while I was at work)
When I had this happen.. it fell under the comprehensive portion of my insurance and did not count as an accident.
Exactly right. I've spoken with insurance already and they confirmed it will not generate a surcharge or an accident record.
Still, there are other things that I'd rather spend $500 on than fixing the issues created by an a-hole. I'm pretty good at putting things that are out of my control in the past, but this one is frying me.
