Those prices are for leftovers, but if you look at the way the few leftovers are equipped, you can see why. In San Jose, there's a TON of black-on-black, P1, illuminated door sills. That's why they're 20+% off.

There's a method to their madness here in the States. They're trying to reduce the fleet's MPG average, and V8's (outside of AMG) are all going the way of the dodo bird. It should be noted, however, that the E-COUPE is now E400/E550 in the States. But the coupe is really low-volume and caters primarily to the sports-minded.

I was order the coupe , but I don't want to pay for e class and got the c class dress e cloth , that's why i got the e 400 sedan.

Selling more smart fortwos would have a greater positive CAFE impact than trying to push the handful of E550 buyers out there into E400s.
