Talking The S word...

SENSOTRONIC! I hope I don't get banned for using such foul language.

Just curious... I heard they deep-six'd the system...BUT a lot of the purported advantages of Sensotronic appear in the 2014/5 E's...maybe even the earlier models. Automatic brake drying, Pre-Safe braking, brake hold, etc. Did it really go away entirely or are remnants of it in our current cars?

I have driven a 2003 E-Class and wasn't a fan of the brake feel. That same car ended up experiencing a catastrophic failure of the braking system a few months later, which was well before the recall. Fortunately the car was only 1 mile away from the dealership when it happened so the driver limped to the dealership using the parking brake.

I think you are mixing with up Sensotronic brakes vs Adaptive Brake

http://techcenter.mercedes-benz.com/...ommend-section

Think of Adaptive Braking system as ESP+ instead of brake-by-wire system.

Lots of positive remnants of SBC still exist, as you've indicated. They eliminated the "brake by wire" part, which was the biggest issue (lack of feel, reliability issues, etc)

SBC...yes, it's history. The brake fluid is pressurized with a pump and each wheel is regulated independently. Think antilock brakes for all four corners with added features. From what I understand SBC features are in our cars but without the pump and pressure system. SBC got rave reviews when working but failures were catastrophic....the backup system only gave you 10% of the braking force.....and they dropped it. It appears they worked out the early glitches but evidently the few failures were extremely scary for the driver and anyone in their way. Rave reviews from the non scared users.
