For something of its price point, CLS should have a digital HVAC readout, hell, it was standard (old school style) in my C43. The feel of those wheels as they click around does not befit an 80K+ car, in my opinion. If the new style moves smoothly and has a readout, it might work better.
It would be cool of the W205 screen swiveled or something, too. Clarity was also good on it - that's something MB has done well, the relatively HD quality of screens.

The HVAC controls for the pre-fl CLS was actually the same HVAC controls in the W204. It not only looks out of place but it also feels cheap/plastic-y/hollow, especially in a cabin where everything else feels premium.
The picture looks like an updated version of those controls so hopefully it isn't as out of place as it was before.

That's actually the first time I really registered the effect on the CLS. Are the side borders always that massively thick, or does more space get taken when in other windows? IMO would've been nicer if they slimmed it some by cutting the borders out.
At least it will be easier to replace when picky customers complaints about the dead pixels. I DO NOT want them to rip apart the dash and introduce new rattles.

Again more stupidity. Car manufacturers will have to address driver distraction issues and I believe this is why they are raising the screens above the dash. This is not a cost saving issue when you have to build a new dash to accommodate the tablet. Once you drive the car a few days you see the benefit and there is absolutely no glare on my CLS.
How about glare, smudges from being a touchscreen, and a system which only works about 50% of the time, and is sluggish when it actually does work:
I know Mercedes' COMAND system gets hammered by the media, but I find it to be one of the best, if not the best, system out there right now. The control knob and now touchpad make perfect sense and minimize driver distractions. Same for all of the buttons, like the numeric keypad. Again, the media hammers them on this, but if it's a car you're living with they're wonderful to have.

Enjoyed your first impression as the dealer here had just called. Took delivery of our E400 RWD sedan yesterday (the rain let-up long enough for a dry ride home).
First MBZ here - really believe that this car was a good choice. Way too early to offer opinions beyond the cosmetics.
Went with Steel Grey over Crystal Grey/Seashell Grey Nappa with Black Ash trim - a light interior tho' the combination works. Have an appointment here with Premier to add a subtle window tint and paint protective film before we hit the road this winter (or should that be "before the road hits us").
On the short ride home - I too was impressed with the low cabin noise level. Went with the 839 Laminated Acoustic Glass SPC option that may contribute here.
And yes - will be posting some snapshots later when the sun comes back out.
It will be interesting to see how the 3.0L twin-turbo 276 DELA 30 V6 engine compares to my first generation BMW 3.0L twin-turbo N54 I6. The MBZ already has a jump in horsepower and torque. If I'm correct, the MBZ runs at a higher boost of 0.8 bar or 11.6 psi relative to the BMW's 0.6 bar or 8.8 psi)- must be a primary factor.
With the refinement of direct injection, and the associated high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors by both manufacturers - I don't believe that the first generation MBZ 276 turbo will pose some (if any) of the teething problems that plagued the N54. Still enjoy my 335i coupe - nearly 100,000 miles on the clock, but now that the sedan has been checked-off the list, it's next.
Maybe a nice 991 - who knows.

Those fingerprints and smudges would drive me insane - maybe I am a little OCD, but I'd need to keep a cleaning cloth in the car to deal with it, I couldn't stand looking at that. Maybe it's because of familiarity, but I don't have much problem with COMAND - I suspect those who are flustered by it are the ones who couldn't set the clock on a microwave 30 years ago. Sometimes address entry is a bit cumbersome, but overall, it's easy after the learning curve.
Just like with the tablet, deal with it for awhile, and it becomes second nature. I'd wager a lot the W213 will either have a tablet, or a smaller variety of the big W222 style screen.
A friend of mine has a higher option 2012 Prius with factory nav, it makes COMAND look like a trillion dollar supercomputer.

Seems to me mktg missed the point here. Sure, you can do it - but, why?

P.S. My Lexus touch screens don't / didn't suffer from nearly his many ugly smudges. And they're far from new. Seems some are more susceptible than others.
