3 and 4 cylinder engines?
That is certainly something that would prevent us from trading up my wife's E.
And my ML, if they're giving it the same engine treatment, on top of the tacked on iPad nav.

I think what you are seeing is a very unfinished product especially the cluster. Stop getting flustered and hurt over a test car there's a reason they camouflage it the best they can lol. I expect here in the US they will probably retain the E350/E400/E63. Sad about the E550 leaving though =( the M278 is a great engine and basically the same architecture as the M157.

The E550 makes up such a small percentage of E-Class production and purchases I think the new lineup will push performance buyers to go for the AMG while lowering overall fleet fuel requirements so I get the point of it, but now the BMW 550i has no competitor from the 3 pointed star

Replacing the E550/500 with the E400 makes the E's performance / drivetrain closer to the C and further from the S. For that matter, it also protects the E63's identity.
On topic, I like the direction the new E interior seems to be headed. The pre-'14 is fine, but the somewhat revised '14 is much more polished. However, both look hopelessly out-of-step with the new S interior. While the interior aesthetics of our E might be "traditionally" on-target, it's getting left behind by Merc designers (as it should be in my opinion).

Tjdehya, I notice how some E's have the L shaped led running lights and some are straight. Is that a trim level change? Some are L shaped and some are straight.

I love the direction Mercedes interiors are headed. I like how the new interior for the C-looks. For the new MLC or is it the MLE coupe the interior looks great notwithstanding the screen that looks like someone glued it on.

It also protects the CLS - which really had it rough against the E550. While the CLS has a better design and interior, the E550 was more practical and cheaper. Easy choice for some consumers.

Standard Headlamps:
Standard has:
- LED low beams
- Halogen high beams
- LED Daytime Running Lamps on bottom of lens
- LED turn signal on bottom of lens
Lighting Package (Active lights):
Active headlamps have:
- LED low beams
- LED high beams
- LED cornering lights
- Fiber optic LED light pipes are Daytime Running Lights
- Active highbeam control -- automatically adjusts the headlamps to provide as high & bright of a beam as possible without blinding other drivers
- Active headlamp aiming -- car automatically turns the headlamp lenses left/right/up/down to adjust for road and weather conditions. IE: if the cameras on the car see a curve ahead, they'll turn the lenses before you get to the curve. If you're in wet/foggy weather, the car will shoot more of the light downward to prevent glare.
Here's a video of the Active lights doing their thing:
I should point out that those photos are from the E Coupe (only one I could find the same angle with both types of lights). The E Sedan has a similar arrangement but different shape:
Personally, I prefer the shape of the E Sedan LED lights...which is exactly what I bought.

Porsche Macan S SportDesign / Ex M-B's: 11 & 10 & 06 E350's, 02 S500
Looks like an exact cross between the S and C, going big on the "same sausage different lengths" bit. Especially after the previous generation with strong variances. The exterior proportions are basically a slightly stretched W205.
E's always get scaled down and less polished S interiors, so this will obviously carry over.
To me, the W211 E epitomized a classy and luxurious M-B interior. Too chintzy in ways, yes, but it felt rich inside. Looks like M-B is going full on with cutting out the "sport chaser" stuff that just got more and more awkward and is embracing its perception of classic/old world luxury.
The interior looks like it'll be a win, especially since it won't get the ghastly Android-wannabe-of-an-iPad screen-glued-onto-dash like other M-B's are getting.

I not only appreciate, but prefer careful and slight evolution of iconic models, but even considering that vs the homogeny and dilution happening with these brands; looks like they're phoning the exterior of both in for the next generation if these renders are true. Basically resized versions of existing models by the brands.
I hate the fussy, awkward and jarring "connected headlamps" on new BMW's. They're really forcing those clustered messes and it just doesn't look right.

Well, I sure hope that these latest renderings of the W213 are not accurate. The curved rear window would greatly reduce rearward sight lines, just like the one in the new W205. The much narrower trunk lid opening would also make it more difficult to load and unload large suitcases. Overall, this car looks much wider and bulkier than the W212, perhaps even boring ! It no longer possesses a distinctive E Class front end with its derivative headlights.
The current facelift W212 looks so much better, from the front, side profile and rear !

W213, Homogenized S & C Class All in One! S plus C equals E!
If the exterior spy shots are of the true W213 to come, anyone can see this car is a conglomeration of the current S & C class cars. I've been driving MB's for the past 20 years or so and IMO I knew the day would come when MB would start a gradual down-hill slide and I believe the upcoming W213 is about there. First off, I don't know if anyone has noticed but MB keeps bumping the price of the base cars every year by 2% to 4%, my W212 is a 2010 E350 loaded with P1, P2 and a bunch of other options and I believe the list price was about $57,000, you can bet your Yankee Dollar that the W213 will base price at around $63,000-65,000 and by the time you put in a few packages that MB will offer that always contain options Americans really don't want along with those they do this next iteration of "E" Class will list out at around $75,000. The current "C" class base price is $40,400, less than 10 years ago the base price of the same car was about $30,000, a 34% increase in 10 years. I know some will agree and some won't but to me, MB is trying to grab market share by making a model for everyone from college kids to the Wall Street types, so I believe in the next 10 years, perhaps less, you will see MB morph into the European General Motors. I remember when a MB was a special automobile, to me , it's simple, "The shine is off the apple".

I like it. The new E looks quite slick. It's a cohesive design from front to rear (unlike the current face lifted W212 where the new nose is incongruous with the rest of the car). It's also recognizable as a current Merc. Combined with the new interior, I'm excited.
[And now the other shoe falls...] However, I am partial to the hard creases of the W212 exterior to the jelly bean-like W213.

Love how everyone is so doom and gloom on a car they haven't seen yet. Those renders are atrocious and not at all in line with the test vehicles we've seen already. I'm REALLY looking forward to the new E. I Doubt it will be a S/C clone.
