Nav Updates
I can only speak to my recent experience with the update for my 2011 E350 4Matic wagon purchased from my Canadian dealer but I would be very cautious buying a used disc and wonder why I bothered.
In 2008 the BC government announced and let a contract for a ring road around Vancouver. In 2009 they let the contract and in 2010 the road was well under way opening just before Christmas 2013. It was well publicized on line and in the local press.
Navteq (new name now) states it has agents all over NA to verify information and give them a heads up. This is a 40 km stretch of road.
The 2014 update did not have this road included. My Garmin and Google Maps in my phone have it but not the very sophisticated MB system.
At $194 CDM club price vs. Life time maps in my Garmin included in the cost, the free maps in Google and the fact that BMW charges much less for its map updates, this was a rip off.
The fact they missed such an important road makes me wonder what else they missed.
To compound matters, a club member agreed to pay half my cost if he could up date his 2011 E350 as well. No go. It refused to load in his system. My conclusion is it is programmed as a on time use item. I was happy at least I did not buy a used one off of eBay.

Yeah, it's a huge money grab by navteq and the auto makers. Also the comand poi search logic is complete garbage. What can you do? Hopefully on the 2017 they go with deeper integration with iOS like they've been saying. Audi absolutely destroys mb in the nav/console tech department with the google maps integration. I don't even want my friends with a6s to get in my car, it's that embarrassing how behind they are.

Not only that but the voice commands for entering data sucks. It works well some of the time but at others? They also should have upgrades the rear camera on a Comand update to give range data as per VW or even Chrysler. I hate to think what an Comand update costs.
