2012 E350 4Matic transmission issues

Hello,

My month old (new to me via CPO) E350 4Matic with 17k on it developed a grinding noise at low speed with the steering wheel turned left or right. Took it back to my dealer, who's very helpful, so far, and initially they said it was a bad transfer case. Then they said that usually MB changes the transmission too, for whatever reason. But, we had to wait until MB sent someone to look at the car today. Well, that person determined that the "gears" that were damaged in the transfer case would be the only thing being replaced, and that then we'd see... Something about this rubs me the wrong way... I just picked up the car, barely made the first payment, and now it seems they know there is a problem, but are trying to get past the warranty period so I get to deal with it. What do you guys/gals think I should do?

Transfer case and transmission are two different things.

If the transfer case has a fault, there is no reason to change the transmission.

A car is a mechanical thing, and you just have some bad luck. Could have happened to anyone. Its still a nice, low mileage car.

I remember reading a TSB somewhere on this site suggesting that both the transfer case and transmission are replaced when there is drivetrain binding, which is what I'm experiencing. Wish I can find it. I will say, that so far, this is a pretty disappointing start.

If a problem goes beyond warranty period and you have documented proof of the problem and the dealer trying to fix the issue but has not then it should still be covered since the dealer is the one not doing the repair in a timely manner.

I have had some concerns with my transmission of late but nothing showed up yet. I have documented it with my dealer SM who agrees if it becomes and issue it is on record. I also documented it to Mercedes Benz Canada as my car came out of warranty 1/22/2015. I bought the extended warranty just in case MBC does its usual BS when it comes to some warranty issues.
