As for Carfax, they have a maintenance app that shows service history. It's free. I will get the VIN, add the car to my "garage" as if I own it. Then all the service history, either submitted by shops or DIY entered by owners, is available. Carfax maintenance app, click here.

This app doesn't show accident history, though.
