Fuel door won't close
After a 1,400 mile drive, my '11 E550 was covered in salt and frozen slush. I went to a wand wash, which I have used many times before. After cleaning the car and filling up with gas, the fuel door would not close and lock. This was a week ago and it has been bitterly cold since the wash. Thinking something was frozen inside the compartment, I heated the area with a hair dryer, to no avail. The pop up button inside the compartment is not seized.
I am at a loss to figure this out. Any ideas folks?

Fuel door won't close
Yesterday I joined the site and posted a request for help to try and figure out why my fuel door wouldn't close.
Well, many of you came through for me and the problem was solved. A common thread in the responses was that the tether cord interfered with the closing. So, a few minutes ago in -25C weather I went to the garage and fiddled with the tether for a few seconds and, lo and behold, the door closed. It had never crossed my mind that this was the problem all along.
My thanks to everyone who responded. I can imagine that the dealership might have suggested a whole new compartment, although this thought might be a little unfair as I have not had a reason yet for service help as I only purchased the car 6 months ago.
