Advance and AutoZone have some good copuons from time to time like that $50 off. Perfect for a battery replacement. And their warranty is better than MB replacement battery. Usually full replacement for 3 years and then maybe some prorate warranty up to 5-6 years total.

Yeah, the 3 year full replacement is a good warranty and longer than MB and Interstate. Plus the Interstate and MB batteries are considerably more expensive than the Duralast Platinum and its counterpart from Advance.

I must be lucky as the devil when it comes to batteries.
Only once on my 1993 W124 did I have to replace the battery at 240000 km and 6 yr.

W212 Sunroof motor repair

My W212(E-class) sunroof wont' close. And I found that the motor drive gear went bad, actually broken away.
So, I purchased the replacement gear through online shopping.

However,no information is available how to assemble the gear to the motor shaft.
If there is anyone who knows how to handle it, please send email me to manfinder1@gmail.com.

I was thinking of connecting an old - but charged - motorcycle battery thru the 12V charging port between the front seats to maintain a charge while swapping out the old battery for a new one. This way, I figure I will not loose any settings.

By the way, since we don't drive our E350 much, we usually keep a solar trickle charger plugged into the same 12V port between the seats, and it seems to help a lot.

Any comments?

There is no magic to swapping in this battery other than it weighs a ton and swinging into place is a back breaker. Took 15 minutes.
My clock needed to be reset and that was the extent of it. No lost information, presets, or anything else. An easy job for anyone and no need to pay a higher price for a dealer to install. It has a 3 year full replacement warranty, which is good for me and better than the 2 year MB warranty.

You will have to remove the headliner to get access to a sunroof motor. It's a tedious process. First you have to remove all the handles, lights, and covers on the side pillars. You might have to remove the rear seats and package shelf just to get the rear pillar covers off. I did all of this to re-cover my headliner in my older CLK. Search the forums for threads with headliner removal for some examples.

Not sure that will work through the 12v port as they are switched (not on when car is off). With memory minders you normally connect them to the battery cables or OBD port. If you have a donor battery, I would use jumper cables to connect it to the charging points. However, I am not sure it is worthwhile since I think most posts on this I've read say you won't lose anything. When I did it, I only lost the trip and since reset counters.

I concur. No need to maintain voltage at all when swapping batteries.
