ISO purchasing help

I had/have a 2011 E350 4 matic. Unfortunately we have been inundated with rain the last two days and my car has been flooded with about 14" of water and is being totaled by the insurance company. I loved my car but didn't do much research on it when I got it. I bought it for an incredible price and wanted an E class so just took it. Now that I can look for one and have options open to me I have a ton of questions. I would love any advice anyone has for purchasing a CPO 2012 or 2013.

Here is what I want so far...

CPO (I was told I can't renew the factory warranty unless I buy CPO so I prefer to buy CPO this time so I can continue the warranty after expiration)

4 door

low miles

and thats it. Here are the questions I have:

What is the difference between BlueTEC, luxury, sport and sedan? I tried to build one to see the different options and prices but didn't have any luck.

What is BlueTEC...other than the reservoir of blueTEC stuff and the increase in gas mileage I don't know anything else. I did notice the lack of horsepower when doing a build on the website. Is this made up somewhere else?

Is there any big differences in the 2012 and 2013 models that would make you prefer one over the other? If you have a 2012 w low low miles and a 2013 w an average amount of miles which one would you choose?

Thanks in advance for any advice I have owned Porsche, BMW and driven an Audi regularly and the Mercedes was my favorite. I am so sad to see it go. This time I get to pick out which one I want so I just want to educate myself on all the bells and whistles this time around.

OK - First of all what you were told about warranty isn't true. Whether you buy a CPO from a MB dealer (which is how I got my E550) or a previously CPOed car (making you the 3+ owner) from someone it's the same thing. If you buy one with the factory warranty still in effect which a 2012+ probably is you can extend it at any MB dealer (only difference vs. CPO is mileage limit).

Bluetec is Diesel. Less HP more MPG and torque. No spare tire. Only RWD no 4matic in 2012-2013. (2014 diesel got 4matic but lost 2 cylinders) Great cars (I used to have an 06), but probably not for you if you're not into diesel ownership.

2012 and 2013 are almost the same. 2012 MB had a blueEfficiency (not blueTEC) kick and badged cars blueEfficiency on the fenders. That's how I tell a 2012 vs 2013 (so no real changes). 2012 got new engines vs 2011. 2014 got facelifted vs 2013.

You want to educate yourself on the options. Some are really cool IMO. I'd take a well optioned car over a low mileage one. Here is the DOG for 2012 so you can see what was available then.

I will throw in my 2c..

BlueTec is the turbo diesel version. Although the hp is lower, the torque is a lot higher. It is by no means a slow car. The reservoir 'stuff' is to burn soot in the exhaust - cleaner emissions.

The Luxury has 17 inch rims with higher profile tires, and the Sport is lower and has bigger size rims with lower profile tires. The Luxury should have a 'softer' ride than the Sport. There are also subtle differences on the inside and outside.

The engines I believe is the same between 2012 and 2013, but there were cosmetic changes on the inside and outside.

When I was shopping for a E350, I specifically wanted the Luxury model. I have not driven the Sport or the 2013 models. I will also purchase the extended warranty in the next year.

I am sure other will chime in, and even correct me where I was wrong!

Thanks for your help! I am not against diesel, just never had one and I tend to be a creature of habit and stick to what I know. Thanks for the link! I will check it out right now!

And thanks for the warranty info. So just to be clear...I do not need to buy CPO in order to extend out my factory warranty, correct?

I went to renew my 2011 warranty and was told since I did not buy CPO that I could not extend it. The dealer (fully aware they could have lied LOL!) told me it was not available unless I bought a CPO vehicle. I am aware of the repair costs of the higher end cars so I really really want to extend the warranty after the period is up.

I had a Sport model and I drove a Luxury model. I do prefer the Luxury model over the Sport. I have a sports car already so I really prefer the smooth ride of the Luxury over the sport.
