First Long Road Trip in E250
The family and I just returned from a road trip in the E250. We logged a total of 4300 KM over two weeks from Calgary to northern California and back.
Overall, the trip reinforced my current impressions of the car. Very pleased with the ride quality, comfort level, and wind and road noise levels are great.
Through the trip, a couple of the nannies sounded off unnecessarily. I had two flashes of the VSC alarm while cruising down the highway several days apart. On the way down I had a tire pressure warning, but when I checked the tires, everything was fine.
The fuel economy continues to impress me. We were able to make it from Calgary to Portland on a single tank of fuel (same for the return). According to the trip computer, we averaged 5.1L/100km (46MPG) on the way down. I figure we would have done 4.9-5.0 (47-48 MPG) if my wife wasn't driving for a portion - she's not the smoothest driver.
Consumption was a little higher on the way back as we were running the AC and increased overall elevation. The trip computer showed 5.4L/100km (44 MPG).
I meant to compare the trip computer with actual filling amounts, but it slipped my mind. The computer seems to be fairly accurate. The final tank took us just under 1400 KM, with a rated average of 5.4L/100, and I put 74 litres in the tank when we arrived back home. Overall consumption for the entire trip, including driving around the various cities we visited waveraged 5.5L/100KM according to the trip computer.
I had the car serviced yesterday - she was about 1700Km overdue by the time we returned. Today she desperately needs some detailing.
Overall, the car served us very well. I was surprised how much I could get into the trunk.

Probably best to do a manual calculation of MPG/KPL as the trip computer almost always shows better than actual mileage. I'm envious of the E250 as my E350 wagon only makes about 22-23 MPG on average (mixed city/highway driving). Diesels are great!
