2014 W212 Odd or Rough Shifting

So I've noticed that my 2014 Sport E350 has some strange shifting behavior.

- Sometimes in 1st gear the engine will rev all the way to 2,500 RPM and then shift into 2nd. Seems a little high no?

- Shifts are rough, especially from 2nd to 3rd

- Hard jerky shifts when the car is cold.

- Downshifting is very rough, I can feel the car 'jump'

I had none of these problems in my 08 E350 which had a very smooth tranny

Because of this the above issues I always have the card in S mode. I have found it shifts a little smoother in this made compared to E. Anyone else having the same problems?

It seems to be fairly common in the current E class and other cars. Surprised that you haven't read about MB transmission issues for so long. Do a search in the forum; especially go through the threads by forum member "perter uber". Good luck.

I had two 07/08 e350s at the same time and ill tell you, theyve improved it alot since. 2500rpm is not high for first gear. Your peak torque is between 2700-5000. Max acceleration during kickdown should put you around 5500rpms before it shifts in either mode.

Lean into it a bit. Dont pull back or try to adjust to what its doing. The computer is doing alot of math =D Give the car time to learn your style, use the same key, dont let your friends/relatives drive it, always use top notch gas.

I was having some of these issues but not all the time. I took it back to the dealer and the tech installed a software upgrade which has resolved my issues, at least so far. The service advisor didn't really want to hear about it and told me there was nothing they could do if it wasn't happening when I brought it in. Luckily it got put into the record anyway and the tech went ahead and fixed it.

Hi
These are signs of low ATF or i believe its time to change your ATF (automatic transmission fluid) because the ATF level might dropped due to gradual leaking from a gasket or it is due to the life cycle of the transmission fluid that just came to its end. Thermal expansion and contraction of the fluid due to temperature flactuations in time it deteriorate its properties. They usually change it around 70,000 miles. Make sure you ask the mechanic and insist on it to use the genuine merceded ATF. If you are unsure call the Mercedes dealership parts depatment and they will be glad to help and inform you which is the right ATF for your transmission. You will be asked for your car chassis number and based on that they will provide you with the right ATF. Do not use any other after market automatic transmission fluid as they tend to cause transmission problems such as hard shifting and early clutch wear after some time so don't take this advise lightly. That can lead to expensive fixes in the future and you do not want that. After the transmission service you should have improved shifting quality. If not it means your clutches inside the transmission are worn and it will need to be rebuilt however i rather doubt it because your car is not that old. Best of luck.
