E550 Rare - Why?

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
There is a lot of love for the E550. I've had mine since April and it's an excellent vehicle. No complaints! As if I would complain about having a Benz anyway!
, but neither is 37mpg at 80+ mph and ~675+ miles per tank (@ 70 mph - US gallons
). But, I gotta say, I was on the phone discussing a deal for an E550 while I was driving down to negotiate the final deal on my current car. The S won out because of the features on it, lower miles, and the S350 dealer was giving much more for my car (E350) than the E550 dealer. If that E550 dealer would have given me more for my car, I would have purchased that car.

The night after taking delivery of my car I had a nightmare that gas went back up and was $7/gal for premium lol...

The savings are really insignificant...
Consider this:
With 37mpg on the 18 gallon tank car can go ~660miles
With 24mpg (E550 in mixed driving) on the 18 gallon tank car can go ~430 miles
Assuming price of fuel, either diesel or premium @ $3/gallon and 12K miles driven on an annual basis, you get per mile cost of $0.08 and $0.12 respectively with annual fuel spend of $960 and $1440 - that's $480 difference per year

Monthly diff = $40!
So... Would you rather drive slower, less fun car or much faster car with better suspension setup, etc when the difference in the price to operate is that of a single lunch?

This is not an apple to apples comparison I understand but it just sounds silly to think that way especially if it's not your money to spend.

Spending slightly under your budget is the key! ;-)
