2014+ W212 or 2013+W221

Ok guys, I'm posting this on both the W212 and W221 forums as I expect biased opinions from both sides. I've researched both and currently drive a 2011 W212 4matic. 4matic isn't a big deal or neccesity in the south but it's nice to have for resale I suppose. I'm leaning towards the W221 for more features but I like the facelift on the 14+ W212's. Budget is around 50-55k for a nicely equipped, low mileage, possibly CPO car. There are a few W212's to choose from in this range but only a handful of W221's with the sport package AND the nicer features....I would like to hear which vehicle you would opt for and why. I appreciate the feedback in advance and look forward to your responses.

buying pre-owned, you get better deal on the S-Class because the depreciation is much much greater on the S

PROmatic, This post is slightly different than the one I posted on the S-class area of the forum. I had a 2010 E, a 2012 E, and now I have a 2012 S. I would recommend a 2012 S vs a 2014 E for your driving enjoyment . Once you drive an S you will realize how much of a different car that a W221 actually is. If you get a W221, make sure it is low miles as you can and still be a CPO car. Purchase the Extended warranty to get another 2 years before your CPO warranty expires. As the S is far more expensive to repair and replace parts than the E. However there are a number of online parts sources that can used to reduce that cost. Nothing in the MB line rides and feels like an S-class. Also for me, there is more room to retrofit features, but less of them to retrofit LOL! And yes, I also have had a 2002 W203, a 2004 W203, and a 2008 W204 too. If you happen to get the 2014 E, make sure you get it loaded as a loaded version may overcome that garish/gaudy facelift front end Good luck

Yeah, I would definitely say that the S will drop lower in the first 2 years, then it tends to drop slower than the E after that though. All the MB cars and other similarly expensive cars, can take a 1/3 hit on depreciation within the first 2 years, definitely by 3 - 4. When purchasing a used car in this market, I tend to try to find the cars that have been on the market ~100 days, as then the dealers tend to deal to the advantage of the buyer as they are looking to sell. I tend to get more for the car I am trading in and they tend to go lower on their end in price during negotiations. Another interesting point is that regardless of when you purchase one of these vehicles and for whatever the price, it is still that vehicle of the purchase price and accordingly the parts cost what they cost originally, so...etc. - expensive! LOL!

Thanks NURU!! I am anticipating the cost of maintenance and warranty and I'm factoring that into my overall decision. The 2012 and 2013 S is pretty much the same car, the factory warranty will more than likely end sooner on the 12 and limit the amount coverage that I have with the ELW. 6/75k give me an extra year with the 2013 but fewer miles because the 13's in my price range have slightly higher miles than the 12's. CPO cars are averaging 3-5k more, I can pick up a CLEAN non-CPO car, add ELW, get MORE coverage AND save 3-5k. The CPO care are all over 51k BEFORE ELW and would land me somewhere in the 55-56k range ultimately.

try to find a car that has been sitting on a lot for 60 - 100 days, then you will have a better chance of getting the deal and car you want. Also see my PM to you about warranties.
