It is Normal
The hold feature, or hill braking feature is actually compensating for foot pedal pressure by design. When you push on the brake pedal again you disengage the electronically controlled hydraulic assist feature.

The problem I am experiencing is not the same as hold and hill start assist...my 2010 w212 had both of those features and brake pedal felt fine. So frustrating...I actually prefer my 2010.
