Otherwise your choice looks great.

BTW: The seat covers for my specific model, in gray, are numbered 21291073467H23 (I believe the H23 signifies the color)
Thank you resonator' : the interior is the beige/champagne and the part numbers you provided should me locate mine help if I go with the replacement route.

I'm guessing MB does not have DIY floating around, case being they want us to take these issues in for labor charges from the dealer perhaps.

For the E series anyway, I haven't heard anything about these issues being resolved or fixed either, hence I'm contemplating just getting them reupholstered then finding nice seat covers over them for my dad to enjoy in his golden years.

Any additional help is most appreciated, hope everyone has a great weekend..

I think what I'll end up doing is waiting for a deal on the MB cover and then, when installing, put a piece of thick monster tape on the inside where it might tear as a reinforcement. It's a somewhat graceless solution but I prefer stock if I can keep it that way.

Maybe they addressed the issue - to be honest, they are usually pretty good about this kind of stuff.

(It would be interesting to find a thick piece of monster tape preinstalled from the factory)

I was under the impression the MB Tex was supposed to be bulletproof. Is it the material ripping or the thread?

I'm feeling better about the leather in mine now.

Thank you for your input, I agree and this is what I would ultimately like to do as well.

Unfortunately, I don't think sourcing the OEM seat cover parts matched to my interior would ever pop up discounted. Also I'm at MB's mercy for labor charges as I'm not very much of a DIY-er'.

The MB Tex feels bullet proof, but from my experiences and from others who posted similar issues- the weak point/flaws are the threads breaking-

On our 2010 E350 with 97k or so miles the threads have separated at the seat cushion horizonatal areas. A previous attempt was made to sew the drivers seat tear, but now the sewn area has ripped hence a complete seat cushion part replacement is needed

On my 2004 Clk the side bolster threads have torn for both front seats

My 2013 E coupe so far is so good, but this car is minimally driven so time will tell

I guess MB quality is starting to decline in certain areas. I think there weren't too many complaints about MB-Tex in the W211 but mine just went recently also, at 100k. Got the rip in the middle of the bottom cushion and the tear in the side bolster as I have dynamic seats. The seat heater also isn't work so it's a 3 for one repair. You can shop around for an indy upholstery shop to do it. One guy quoted me $500 for both the cushion cover and labor. Got to call a few more places.

Oh my, I was quoted today by our most reputable shop in the area for $945 total for both seat cushion repairs with labor.

What's strange was he said the drivers side OEM cushion was $325 and said MB doesn't sell the seat cushion only for the passenger side, but a complete set at $1200 for just the passenger side.

The quote he provided is using an OEM cushion $325 for the drivers side and an after market one for the passenger side cushion $365, with labor at 1.5-2.5 hours per side all in all totaling $945 or so which I felt was outrageous.

I did talk to another guy who wanted $500 to just repair the cushion and fix the rip plus I had to buy the heater pad. Now with reports of it ripping again after a repair, I might just go with a new cushion. I think the cushion is around $200-$250 depending on the color online. That $325 is probably the MB list price at the local dealer. The $500 quote I got was $350 for the cushion and $150 for labor. I wish there was a DIY for it, people claim they can do it in 2-3 hours. The heater pad is another $100+. I wish EPC-net was still free, now I got to go figure out the part numbers. I would suggest that you call a few local upholstery shops in your area. I only called those two.

Thanks again.. my interior seat color is just basic tan/beige nothing fancy. I'm assuming they are quoting list price now as well.

I believe if you provide your vin, the part number can be looked up.

Also highly recommend replacement of the cushions to you and anyone having the same tears. One of my seats were previously fixed/sewn and it definitely teared-ripped where now there's no material left to sew.

I like to just punch in the part number in google and see what pricing comes up. There's a handful of MB parts places that comes up all the time, but usually one or two new ones pop up with a better price. Yeah, mine is beige too, 105A imitation leather. Just wish there was a DIY youtube video on it.

Let me see if I can get the part number and if there's an instruction schematics for this from my buddy who works at an MB dealer, if so I'll share with you and the forum here.

He's out of the country for another few weeks unfortunately.

I think I found the part number. 21291073468P26

Prices range from $225-$229, now it all depends on how much shipping is. If I can get clear instructions, I might be able to convince my indy to tackle it, but he won't touch it without clear instructions.

i had this happen this april/may right as i brought in the car for service -- i suppose i'm lucky with my dealer based on reading this post -- but they proactively said they would fix everything under the CPO and did so within 2 days.

i was told this was a very common issue to the point that MB has modified the seat cushion to had different stitching and that's what the replace this with now.

Two Things:

1) Does anyone have a DIY (or other) set of instructions on replacing the seat cover(s)? I think $229 is a fair enough price and I'd like to do it.

2) Personal note: I don't think the quality of MB Tex has declined but the design of the seat, particularly with the tight stitching on a side to side seam, is to blame. I just don't see that many seats with a recessed side stitch like that. All the abuse hits right in that seam. And, as I understand it, the leather seats do not have it recessed like that.

Cetial and Konig, many thanks ...you gents just made our days with this info and schematics, now hopefully they will have my color and DIY is not too hard for this non-mechanical guy.

It doesn't look too bad if you don't have dynamic seats. Otherwise the pliers and the connector look a little tricky.

Agreed and it's hard to find a thread on ripped leather problems, but plenty for Tex

I also had the same issue with my 2014 w212.
Mine was covered under the factory warranty.
they replaced the whole seat cover. I imagine if you make enough noise they will "take care of you".
It has been my experience that if you have a good relationship with the service department, they will more often than not, Make sure that you are satisfied.

Big thanks to Konig. Interestingly, I had my new-to-me 2010 W212 in to my local dealer to ask about replacing the seat cover because of this rip and the SA quoted me $424 for parts alone - no mention of the bulletin.
