Larger Size Screen
Hi all ,
I have recently been driving for a few weeks a B.M.W 528 , the car had a much larger screen then my Mercedes 2013 E250, I got so used to it that now when I got back to my Mercedes, the screen looks to me so small that it really disturbs me , it looks as there is a lot of space around the screen.
Has anybody replaced the OEM screen to a larger size ? I know the new C class has 2 sizes screens , does the E class have that too ?

never been done before for one reason...cant be done. (or, too much work for a lil gain)
the 213 will have a bigger screen like the new S, so it seems from the spy shots.

Your complaint is the reason OEMs are no longer integrating screens into the dashboard but rather implementing iPad-like add-on screens. With an external screen it is much easier to change the screen size/aspect ratio at facelift since the manufacturer no longer has to redesign and certify the entire dashboard. Since designs are finalized months/years ahead of when they're released, the technology is often outdated when a new car launches.
To answer your question, you could probably get the new telematics from a 205 C-Class to work with a ton of cash and a sawzall. But probably best to wait for the new 213 E or buy a BMW 5er.

The BMW 528i's screen has a different aspect ratio, it a wider screen. Its useful for split screen but for the purpose of a single screen display, its just eye candy, not very useful.

-you have the money
-you have a 212 to ruin/upgrade (i say this coz that project can easily go
either way)
-you have the time
-you know the right people that can fabricate a new frame for the bigger screen
-you have the patience and know how
if youre willing/can do all those mentioned and other problems that could arise during the process for less than 15mm gain on all 4 sides of the screen...go for it.

Larger lcds in cars are a trend like big phones. Sounds cool, except that its just more driver distraction and a big screen lighting up your face at night. Just my opinion.

Still in my opinion if Mercedes or some aftermarket Manufacturer comes out with a facelift to larger screen and the frame around it that would fit in for a reasonable price, I think they will sell a lot of them .
I think the car looks now outdated.

thats your opinion and I respect that, personally, i dont see the need for a bigger screen with my cars atm.
W212 came out 2009 and facelift started 2013. mercedes started rolling out slightly bigger screens with the A and CLA then with the new C, biggest so far with the S.
your concern should have been posted 6 years ago when W212 first came out. facelift models are not known for drastic changes, its more subtle and lil tweaks here and there.
if you want "bigger" and "better", thats what the new models are for. wait for the W213. looks like itll have a bigger screen that you want.

I might be wrong but it looks to me that the space of the screen and its frame is large enough to put in a larger screen with a matching frame ???
