W212 E350 DI Engine Knocking Noise when Cold
I have a 2014 E350 4 matic. The other day I noticed that when the car is started up and has been idling a while (still not up to normal operating temperature), there is a knocking noise coming from the engine.
This is not the Direct Injection clatter we get on start up but a distinct knocking noise. Car has 10K miles on it not sure how long it has been doing this since I never paid any attention to it before.
It is not present when fully warmed up after driving it a while. I would hate to think that there is quite a lot of play somewhere in the engine (pistons??) when cold, which could be causing this. It is not overly loud but definitely present. I have not brought it in to get it checked out. They would probably say it is normal. I have only seen this on very high mileage cars. Has anyone experienced this??
