Why do you think summer tires are not good for rain if you don't mind me asking?

I was always under the impression that the tread was not made to displace water as effectively as all seasons. I've since read up on it a little more and it appears summer tires don't hold up well to cold temperatures and of course snowy conditions.

Summer tires have to be capable of full control in the rain -- it rains during the summer in the majority of the world.

AFAIK, the major difference between summer and all-weather tires is the rubber compound. Summer tires are optimized for warmer weather, all-weather are balanced between warm and cold weather, and true winter tires (along with their aggressive tread patterns) are optimized for cold weather traction.

Any or all of these tires should be capable of adequate control in rain. Now, race tires or slicks. . . that's a completely different situation.
