ADDING A TRUNK CLOSER TO AN '11 E350 ???

Hello, Everyone:

I just bought a new-to-me 2011 E350 BlueTEC to replace my 2005 E320 CDI.

The '05 E320 has the power trunk closer but the '11 E350 does not have it. (Both cars have the power trunk openers. Both have the opener buttons on the remote clicker and on the driver door.)

My wife just loves being able to reach up and push the red, light-up button on the trunk lid that closes the lid. (She is a school teacher and has all kinds of book bags, etc. that she hauls in the trunk and it is so simple to just poke the button with your elbow and have the lid close rather than having to put things down to manually shut the trunk.)

Does anyone know for certain if the closing mechanism on the old car can or cannot be moved and made to function on the newer car? (I'm sure crazy things can be done, but I'm really talking about an unbolt from one and bolt on to the other, change out.)

The main feature she'd like is trunk lid button closing feature. Closing the trunk from the driver door isn't all that important.

Anyone know for sure? THANKS!!

I wouldn't mind having this option too, but I think you should give up on this dream. The two cars are completely different. You will need the button module, trim, and whatever electrical actuator closes the trunk. Then I'm positive that it will have to be programmed into the computer by a dealer. I'll bet the wiring harnesses are already there, but the cost of the parts are probably more than it's worth to just pull the trunk with your hand. Maybe if the owner is handicapped in some way and cannot exert a few pounds of force on the trunk lid it would be?

If you end up getting a quote from the dealer or something, please let us know.

I love this feature but find myself being lazy and using it even when I don't have to. I had a neighbor come up and just randomly press the button like a kid. Mind you dude is older then my parents. I guess it's a mesmerizing button from afar all glowing and such

its a nice feature really, prevents me and the mrs from slamming the boot not to mention i can lock the car after i unload the groceries. but im sure your E350 DOES not have power trunk opener. it does however have the trunk release button. if you notice, as soon as you hit the open button on your 350, the boot would swing open compared to the slow and steady openning of the 320 (with power open/close).

and like Jon said, it might not be cost effective to modify it. sorry to say that. congratulations on the new addition to the merc family!

I'm not an expert (but do play one on the Internet), but like others have said this would seem nearly impossible. I have the close feature and it's really nice, but low on the must have list. Good luck!!

the old one will most likely not work on the new one. they need to fit below the rear speakers etc.
I got it done on my old W212 from Steve@MbenzNL, then he is the expert.

Do you have a parts list? What was the approximate cost for the conversion?
