Well two major differences. First 2010-2011 have their airbags recalled and it's unknown when MB will have the parts to fix all of them. Also in 2012, the standard 3.5L engine went to direct injection so HP went to 302 from 268hp. And one last factor is that a 2013 with under 50k probably has some of the original warranty left and you can buy up to a 7 year/100k extended warranty or get 3 years unlimited miles CPO warranty. That would be much harder to find in a 2011.

on the e350 if there's not much difference i'd always go with the newer car. the 2012-2013 have a newer engine, based off american design and single air filter, more power and hopefully somewhat more reliable.
i believe there is a transmission change in there somewhere and the service interval is moved from 40K to 60K.

I know that 2012 had pretty significant changes in gas cars over 2011. I'm still considering the 350 Bluetec and I think that model was same 2011 to 2013. If I don't go with Blutec I'll go 550. I know I know. Two extremes. I have Porsche Turbo Coupe and Cayenne Turbo. It would be nice to have something that gets MPG into double digits. Bluetec get 400% better mileage than the Cayenne Turbo.

For extended, you have to buy the car from a non MB dealer and you can get some of your money back if you haven't really used it. With CPO, you can't get money back, but it can be transferred to the next owner, but it expires if you trade it into a dealer. CPO is only from an MB dealer and it has to come with 1 year and you can buy 2 extra years from any US MB dealer. You would probably be better off asking one of those dealers about a price as I think someone tried to buy one only to find it had a previous extended or CPO warranty that was expired and couldn't buy another one.

I like to use Motor Trend to see what the option packages were for the year.
Then I use a VIN decoder like:
http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz
That's to see what the option packages are on the car. For 2013, they still had the BiXenon headlamps, 2014 I think they went with LED and got rid of the headlamp washers.

Yeah, the Bixenons are fun as the curve illumination is pretty cool, but the P2 package wasn't common, I'd say around 1 in 10 may have it. At least you can look for the headlamp washers on the front of the car.

This is the exact type of info I was looking for. Edmunds said 2011 to 2012 Blutec had no changes. Thanks for this correct info.

I was originally looking at 2011-2013 Bluetec. Diff at Manheim is only a few thousand dollars. Tho when buy my own cars I get them on the open market and find I can get very close to Wholesale pricing. (And I corrected for mileage) Diff in 550 pricing is more like 8K.
