1+ to this.
When I bought my car I was also wondering why my car doesn't read texts and text icon appears "greyed" out. Turns out the problem is with phone and not the car. Simply change the settings as described. You may have to reboot the phone / Bluetooth connection. Good luck.

Works pretty well with an iPhone6 in a 2015 E-Class, but the system won't show the full text of a text message while the car is in motion. It will show it when stopped, but not until.
I don't know if there is a way to reply to a text from the Comand system, but I couldn't imagine it being practical. Can this be done with voice recognition?

I reply via "Hey Siri"

This is true for all Comand that has NTG4.5 and 4.7. You can get messages and will read aloud for you when block while vehicle is in motion.
You can bypass and read the message if you install Video in Motion software, I guess the install not only remove restrictions on video playing but also on text reading...
But I do not recommend Text reading or replying while in motion....

Right now, I just click on the text msg in the Command telephone screen and read it myself. Sounds like there's a "read me aloud" button somewhere in there?
For what it's worth, I have my read back speed set at "fast" or similar in one of the option menus.

Hmmmm, I'll try monkeying with the Command screen when I get a text in the car...

Yup, you're right - my '12 W212 will indeed read text msgs from my iPhone. It takes one or two more clicks on the Command knob, but it sure works. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
IMHO, it's a novelty. Between having the robot stumble on certain words and the few extra clicks, I think I'm just going to read all but the longest text msgs.
Thanks!

Yes, I also toyed with the command knob while a text was incoming and it read out the text from my iPhone 5. I guess it should work with iPhone 6 as well. I don't know if this will work when car is in motion. I know that the text will be greyed out. Honestly I have no desire to figure out if texts can be read while in motion (for obvious reasons) .

Thanks to this thread, I got my iPhone SE to show texts on the Comand screen and read them! Shows the value of doing a search first. The last post to this thread was in April. Search is your friend, along with all the helpful people who have been there, done that, and have the t-shirt and the video.
