13 e350 sport lifter noise

My 2013 e350 make a loud sound when i start it up, but not all the time tho. As soon as its done starting up. Noise goes away. I took it to a local euro mechanic and he says its the lifters, and the reason it sounds sometimes is because the position they are in when i turn it off.

If anyone has any insight on this please let me know.

Ide like to know what the cost of doing this job is if anyone has done it.

Im pretty certain our cars have overhead cams. Pretty sure most do now days which eliminating the use of lifters. Lifters were mostly used in days of carburetor fed motors. If its like a ticking sound, its probably your injectors warming up which is common. If i were you i wouldn't take your car back to or ask advice from Euro place you went to.

Uh, No. It's the hydraulic lifters and yes they have OHC as well. I have the same issue, the little check valve that keeps the oil in them leaks and it takes a couple of seconds for them to pump back up and stop making noise. AFAIK, it causes no harm but is disconcerting on such an expensive car. Not sure if going to a thicker oil would help, but it is a known issue and there have been recent threads on it too.

Didn't realize Mercedes-Benz used them. I know not all motors now days use them. I've built a few Evo motors and know they don't.

Secondary timing chains might produce a rattling sound during engine start up until oil pressure builds up. If your engine # is within range (up to engine # 30 365996 replace check valves & tensioners, 30 365997 up to 30 406603 check valves only) covered under warranty reference bulletin LI05.10-P-056435. If you do not know your engine # PM or post VIN.
