RR Door Panel - Speaker - Smoke

I need to remove the door panel, rear passenger (right) side. Speaker started making shorting/sparking/popping/crackling sounds. Strong smell of burning wires. Was on the freeway, couldn't pull over very quickly. Turned off radio, still no help.

Finally stopped and unplugged wiring harness from door - so there's no power to anything on that door. It stopped the sound and burning smell. (surprised turning radio off didn't help)

Anyway, anyone have instructions for removing panel? Don't feel like figuring it out myself (usually when I do it without instructions I break a bunch of plastic clips and stuff)...so I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks in advance!

Pry out plastic strip under the inside door handle, couple of screws behind that, then start prying the door panel. Wouldnt hurt to have a plastic pryer. Youll hear loud pop each time but dont worry, its normal.

Try to search on google on how to remove w212 door panel and youll see it here on mbworld. Very easy 5min job.

Thanks, did exactly that. Has to be the easiest door panel I've ever removed. Two screws under arm rest behind the plastic cover, pulled all around panel to release clips from door, and she was out.

Found the problem as well. The woofer in the door is smoking when power is applied. The center of the cone has been melted away from the middle...hoping the root cause is the speaker. I'm going to get a set of rears and do both at the same time.

I'm going to search on here to see what others have used for replacements. Anyone have any recommendations for replacement rears?
