Bolt size? How to unscrew the Brake Caliper Bolt (2011 E550)

Hi,

Of the many joys I get from driving a 2011 E550 4 matic, I do get one issue that many others with similar model have faced, Braking vibration. I have decided to take the DIY route. I got the parts (rotors and pads).

So I take the front driver side wheel off and I cannot get to unscrew the Caliper bolts... I made like 4 trips to Autozone but can't get the right socket; an 18MM is tad bit bigger and a 17MM won't fit. I tried so hard with the 18mm to unscrew the bolts and they feel like they are soldered. I have hammered the rachet with the 18mm socket on, but to no use.

Can anyone tell me the socket size for the caliper bolts and also recommend an efficient way to unscrew the bolts?

Note: If you know of a good garage in Dallas area who will do a quality job or install customer purchased parts, please let me know.

Thanks alot for reading my post. Look forward to your replies.

Regards

Have you tried standard size socket instead of metric? Sometime it MIGHT provide a better fit. You probably need a breaker bar instead of a wrench to loose the torque on it. I just picked up my 14 E550 4M today and have not worked on it yet but most of the brake calipers are the same.

I just did mine and I used 18mm. Try spraying some wd 40 or another good penetrating oil. You can also turn the wheel to one side to expose the bolts and get more torque to wrench. A breaker bar will definitely do it.

Once you get those off it's really simple
