Double star

I took off the flat emblem on the hood. Can you believe it was plastic. I installed a hood star. Whole process took about 2 minutes. Will keep the star on until the wife notices it. If she likes it it stays, if not, back to the flat emblem. I think it looks fine. It will probably take a month or so for her to notice itIMG_0008.JPG.IMG_0004.JPG

Personally for me..its one star or the other. Just before I bought my E550 I was getting ready to Order the star grill to replace the factory grill of my sedan.....Then I would have had two stars like you do...for me...I'm glad I didn't change...I love seeing that star up ahead of me as I drive down the road...as for the grill...im happy I left it alone.
If I had your car.. (IF) .personally Id put back the flat star...lol

My preference is one star. Having two looks like a mistake was made.

Everyone has different taste and They are all respected but I will only give you my opinion.
For me while behind the wheel driving, if I don't see the erect star, I'm not driving a Benz. I agree with others that two stars is weird.

Just a fan of the standing star - so elegant. But I would probably stick with one, not both, if it were me. But you've got to like it - that's what counts.

^ I think he means many will assume it(car) came with the star on the hood when you bought it but you added the grill's star. It seems to be a common thing to purchase on Amazon etc. so more then likely people would think the grill was added versus the hood emblem being added.

Oh, just to add my opinion I'm not a fan of two stars but my opinion means nothing if you like it on your car as you've modified it. Enjoy

I'm not a fan of the flat badge. I'm also not a fan of the grill star of the late models and simply prefer the subtle classic grill with the hood star. If I was driving an SLS AMG my opinion would be reversed. The hot rods look better with the big grill star. The louder the better.

It is redundant with 2 stars. Wife still has not noticed but I do not think I will keep it on. We are going on vacation and I am worried the Kids will snap it off to make a chain around there neck. Had that happen 3 times on wife's cadillac. That is mainly why we took the car with the flat emblem. Never have to worry about them snapping it off.

You should beat them to it and fashion a Star chain for yourself! See if your wife notices that!
Ha! Since they mounted these on a spring years ago I don't think they get ripped off as much as they used to. Plus, I think that crowd has moved onto other marquees.

The star has a spring inside still. That is how it flexes when you go through a car wash. On the old cadillac you were able to wire the hood emblem to the alarm system in the car. When the alarm is on then the emblem is wired. If you pull or bend the emblem it would set off the car alarm. I checked on ebay and they sell them but only used. Not worth the bother. although if I hooked it up to the aooga horn that would scare the hell out of someone. Looked into the hood star that is on Viagra and in order to use it you have to bring power up to the unit. It actually has 2 modules you have to mount. Not worth it either. Oh well I can see going back to the flat emblem.

Eh, only one star imo. Standing start more preferred as I like the more "classy" look.

Thought of getting a grille star only for the illuminated star option. Though, quickly realized I can just do the full grille light up similar to BMW's take, and be done with it.

you dont necessarily have to acquire others taste, thats the beauty of owning your own car. you can do what you want with it.

besides, if you get tired of it, (or the wife says otherwise, whichever comes first), you can easily change it back.

To each his own man. If you like it keep it. I am actually considering doing the hood star and replacing the big star grill for the regular one. I actually like that look better. Now that i have the other. lol.

Already switched it back. Wife never noticed it. I just felt it looked better with one star but I had to see it first.

i always love the standing hood star. i tried the flat before on my old cars and i always go back to the standing. now i just painted it black to match the blacked out grille on my sedan.

now sure but is there a conventional grille for the facelift 212?

Yes. The luxury trim came with the traditional grill, which imo looks better.

^ thanks for that mate. i love it, especially with the distronic.
also, makes the grille look bigger since the surround is chrome and not body color.

I prefer the traditional hood star even though I've been led to believe M-B denotes a "sport" version with a grill star. Both stars seem ostentatious (the multi-syllable word for today) to me.
