Moving on up...

I have loved my E550 but made a deal on a new S this evening and moving on up ( "to the east side...." The Jefferesons throw back)

The car has been awesome and hands down the best car car I have ever owned. All day comfort, cruises at near triple digits if the environment will allow, great lines that still look stunning at 6 years old and an interior that somehow remains fresh all while delivering 19 C / 24 H mpg. What a great ownership experience, a few bumps along the way but MB always made good with exception of the front rotor issue.

Trade was pretty bad at $23,500 for a 2011 with 54,000 miles. Kinda expected it but still sucks. That said I've certainly gotten $37,000 of enjoyment out of over the past 6 years. Wish I had a family member / friend that I could pass along to vs selling to the dealer. My oldest son just turned 16 but this is too much car for him with the V8.

If someone around Nashville is looking for a great deal on an awesome P2 car hit me up. All service done through 60k (plugs, tranny and brakes) and Airmatic was replaced last year.

Thank you all for your help over the years. I've learned so much from this group and its by far the most active section of the board. True enthusiasts!

Congrats on your upgrade!
Can only hope to be able to move to a full sized S class one day.
I just wanted to ask, what caused the Airmatic to go and was it warrantied?

Thanks. The Airmatic is a known issue with the 550's. Both rears replaced around 30,000 and the right rear replaced again at 44,000. Both issues occurred in the winter with sustained temps at or below freezing. Something about the seals leaking. The last time they replaced with a newer part number...or so they said. All under warranty - 1st under normal factory warranty and the 2nd under the extended warranty. Front rotors replaced at ~12,xxx under warranty ( customer consideration - because there really isn't a problem...right ) replaced myself with updated part numbers no issues since.

If the dollar value of your e550 isn't more than you want to give to your son, or you don't think it would be too pretentious, you could have OE Tuning de tune the e550 with a valet mode type of tune option, limit speedo at 5 over the top limit you see around your area, lower throttle response and acceleration. Considering you know the cars background and history may be worth considering.... as he matures, start bringing back some power .

Also, it's a heavy and safe vehicle, more than you can say for most starter vehicles....

Side note, congrats on the S. I am jealous!

MB’s of all kinds.
Nice upgrade! The W212 is a nice car but nothing compared to the S Class. You will not look back at all. Post pics when you get a chance.

Ah OK.
Thanks for for info.
Did you go with the MB extended warranty or another company?
Considering one myself...

MB extended warranty through Erin at Santa Rosa if I remember correctly. Saved ~$800 over local plus no tax. Great experience and will get one for the S as well if I keep it past the factory warranty period.

Good to know they play with the price a bit.
I've been offered 2 yr comprehensive + 1 yr powertrain for $3,650CAD plus tax.

You think it's fair?

I could get a third party warranty for 4 yrs comprehensive at $2,000CAD plus tax but I know for sure it will not fully cover a Benz...

Thanks again!
