Odd code in VIN Decoder
Hi,
I recently bought a 2014 E350 Sport (black on black) CPO with 17K miles. Got the 2 year extension on the CPO warranty from the dealer as well.
The car is pretty basic for an E350 (P1, rear spoiler, comfort box), but is a HUGE UPGRADE from the Mazda5 I was driving!! Still puts a big grin on my face every time i pull out of the garage!!
This forum has been great to learn more about MB over the last few weeks. I was using the VIN decoder tool mentioned in here in a couple of posts (http://www.vindecoderz.com/) and i noticed this as one of the items that came up for my car:
258 - COLLIS.WARN. SYS. W/ ACTIVE BRAKE INTERV. FCW STOP
I don't have the collision system, just the Attention Assist that is standard. So what does this item mean? Any ideas? The rest of the items decoded match up with my car.
Please let me know.
Thanks.
G

Congrats on your new ride! Having owned a 2014 E350, I too was curious as to how the collision assist works. IIRC it does not autonomously brake for you. But, it will increase braking force if the system determines that you aren't stopping quickly enough to prevent a collision. Again, for it to work you have to be braking to have the system engage. It will also sound an alert, and a dash warning light if it senses an oncoming vehicle in turn lanes ahead. I experienced this multiple time in my short time of ownership.

Thanks for the replies. I understand it now.
The fact that it will increase the brake force as needed is great! I have already seen the red triangle light up and the warning sound when a car is turning left in the lane next to me and the car thinks i need to brake/slow down.
