2011 E550 Starter Replacment
I have had my E550 for about 3 years now, she has 95,000 miles. Last year in the summer I started to notice a extended crank on cold starts. The motor would turn a few times before the engine would start.
I thought it may have been the crank positioning sensor and it has been on my list of things to be proactive about replacing. Murphy's Law struck me while at the car wash, hoped in my car, pushed the start button and nothing.
Got my car to the shop and had the starter replaced. it was replaced with a Bosch starter. over all took them about a hour.
I can notice a much stronger and quicker start.
Just thought I should throw this out there in case others are having a similar issue.
Did u check ur starter relay and fuse? We’re they blown at all?
I have same issue left my 2011 E550 at work parking lot
parked it came to it 5 min later no start but all lights turn on like it would start
no clicking no nothin
even tried jumping it and nothing so I checked the starter relay and shook it after I popped it off and seems like something is broken inside. Causing a rattle in the relay
after I rule that out I’m thinking starter also. Please let me know.
Very little or no warning.
Was towed to the MB shop & they had to replace the starter motor.
Does start more positively now.
51,000 miles on the odo.

I assume the MY in question here do not have ECO stop?
MB claims the starters for ECO are 8 times "stronger" (longer brushes?), but that has to be proven.
