40K Scheduled Service Cost Comments?
Local Benz dealership quoting me $800 (tax included) for the 40K service LESS an oil change, cabin filter change and engine air filter replacement. ( I perform those myself) Normal full price is $1250. This service has the automatic transmission fluid and filter replacement, fuel filter replacement, brake fluid replacement and rear axle differential fluid replacement. Any thoughts on the price? reasonable or not? These are major service items that perhaps I don't want independent shops to do and also includes the numerous system checks such as re-aiming headlights, etc etc .... Thoughts?

The oil change and cabin filter are the major pieces of the B service which you plan to do yourself. The rest are just visual inspection for the most part. ATF fluid and filter is about $425 at my local dealers. Brake fluid is about $120. Both are cheaper at indys.
Oh and +1 for prepaid maint. I paid $1090 2 years ago for a 3 pack to cover my 60/70/80. You could get one to cover your 40/50/60. The 60k was more expensive than the 40k for me given the plugs are more than the ATF.

Yeah, the pre-paid maintenance is the way to go. I think you can buy it as long as the car has under 80k. Check with the vendors in the extended warranty sub forum, they also sell pre-paid maintenance although I don't think it gets discounted as much because it's not really marked up that much.
