Headrest lowering button on dash of E350/E550

I understand what the headrest lowering button on the dash does, but is it an option or part of a package? The reason I ask is when I look at pictures of potential cars (E350 and E550) I see some have it, some don't. I thought it had something to do with Parktronic but I see cars with both head rest lowering button and parktronic, some without the head rest button but with Parktronic, some with head rest button but no parktronic and some with neither. Any ideas?

From the research I have done the headrest button is only in the 2014 e class manufactured in 2013, and have the split folding rear seats. It was very hard for me to find an 2014 e550 manufactured in 2014 with split folding rear seats and the headrest button. I could be wrong but that is my personal research.

Does it lower the front or rear headrests? It would make sense for the rear.

If you're worried about finding a car with this, don't. It doesn't fold the rear headrests down like in the S, it just drops them back to their lowest position. I've never had anyone raise a headrest while sitting in the back so I've never had to use it (and I doubt most people will)

Yup, I'd suspect a connection (or disconnection) to the folding rear seats. Not sure those features can coexist.

I did some digging around in an online Owner's manual and I keep seeing reference to E350 wagon for this headrest button.

Yet the cars I am searching for on line are E350/550 sport models. So I am still confused I guess.

I had this feature in my E350 and E550, I think it's something to do with P1 package. It's not a big deal... I've only used it to show it off to people lol

Same haha. One of those party tricks, like the rear sun shade.

Not really sure why it became a feature. Can anyone expand?

My 2014 E350 (non Wagon) does not have that button, but it was built later into 2014. The headrests pop down when you un-latch the folding seats but they don't move electronically or anything.

I use the rear sun shade all the time. I drive my daughter to my inlaws in the morning and she has a rear facing car seat, so I put up the sun shade and it blocks the sun from her eyes. Its a great feature

The sunshade is another one of those party tricks, but I leave mine up full time. That and my tint keep it nice and dark inside all the time, like a cave. I'm a cave man, ooga ooga.

I have it in my 2013 E550 with split fold seats, if that matters.

So true on every point you make! 100X!

With the rear seats folded down, I can stuff my road bike in the trunk. Very handy. When I put the seats back up, I sometimes hit the "lower headrest" button and I hear a happy clunking sound coming from the headrests. What the headrests do, I don't know. I just like pushing buttons.

Well said. I haven't used it since I bought the car and checked these features. Very true.

it comes in handy after stuffing about trying to fit children's seats, into a car that doesn't have an adjustable centre headrest, once there fitted you can just hit the button to drop headrests down for visibility
or to scare the kids , 🤣
