I never bought any extended warranty's until buying my last two M-B's. IMO unless you are capable of DIY on these cars a warranty is a must. If you don't have it, and something fails then the car is a money pit. At least you are covered with a warranty. In my case I plan to sell my E550 CPO when the warranty is about to expire, and go buy something else I like with a CPO warranty. BTW congrats on your new ride!

^^
This. I canceled my 2 yr additional CPO warranty (paperwork says ELW) back in October 2016. I initially bought the additional 2 yr CPO warranty when I bought my car through an authorized MB dealer. My factory warranty was up in Aug 2016, now I am in the 1 year window of the CPO warranty. I will re-buy the CPO 2 year warranty in August (much cheaper than what I initially paid at the dealer) of this year before my factory CPO expires. I was told that once your in the 2 year CPO warranty outside of the expired 1 year CPO that came with the car, you cannot receive a refund...I may be wrong. Just my input.

It's probably CPO that you have. It wouldn't make sense for it to be ELW because real CPO is unlimited miles and ELW is limited to 7/100k. So if you hit 100k on your CPO, the ELW would already be expired.

Gents,

Phew! Didn't mean to start a sh@t slinging match. Thanks for all the advice. Truly appreciated.

The car is under CPO for one year. I have the option of extended for another two years under mercedes CPO before end of December 2017.

I think the concensus from gear heads and the not so inclined is to buy the extension. But shop around for a better deal. I will be doing this later this year as one poster commented in the warranty section that buying early may be a major loss should some unfortunate event occur.

Again, thanks a bunch guys.

One last note is that i am saddened that a CPO is still considered a must buy for a non AMG vehicle. Mercedes should be ashamed of themselves. At least parts are cheaper than my prior AMG vehicles. Fingers crossed and hope the CPO pays off in the end.

I posted this in late 2015 after owning my CPO 2012 E550 for about a year:

In the ~15 months that I've had my Merc, it's made 3 trips into service for mainly niggling little issues. I'm undecided on keeping my car out of warranty or not. I'm hoping the service frequency goes down once I get all these little issues sorted. I'm a long time Lexus owner for the record and while they're not perfect, they mostly just require oil and gas year in and year out. I miss that with my Lexus, but am optimistic my Merc will "settle down."

For those doing math at home, I've owned my car now for ~2.5yrs. It's been largely troublefree motoring and no issues since late 2015. The factory b2b has now expired as has almost 1.5 of my 3yrs of extended Merc warranty (1yr came with the car and I bought an extra 2yrs). So far, I'm underwater on the ext warranty purchase though my $2k investment could rapidly turn in my favor with 1-2 big repairs. However, as a first-time Merc owner and long-time uber reliable Lexus owner, I wasn't about to try it without a safety net.

Good luck with your decision.

P.S. The M278 bi-trubo is absolutely awesome! It's fast, gets great mpg and is awd wrapped in a stately package. I'm sure the AMG can put it to shame, but this thing still rocks.
